Adding factory tow package to MY2014 SRT

I purchased a leftover 2014 SRT Jeep about a month ago. Had all the options I wanted, without the tow package. I'm looking to add the factory tow package and wanted to know what is ACTUALLY needed to complete this.

I've heard the tow package is the following:

- heavy duty engine cooling (hear they all have this regardless)

- anti-sway "technology" (hear this is part of switching to tow mode- they all have this)

- 4 pin/7 pin wiring (hear they're all pre-wired)

- spare tire (i know that mine doesn't have this)

- removal of tow hook (i assume anyone can do this)

I've seen a few threads on this topic, but nothing that looked current.

So, my question- what do I need to purchase to turn my non-tow-equipped Jeep into a factory and complete tow package?

I've heard of a connector needing to be purchased, obviously the hitch itself, the tow package bumper insert, and I'd like to add the full-size spare just because.

Does any vendor sell a complete "kit"? I'd seen some links that are no longer current.

Has anyone done this? Did you add a brake controller? Where did you mount it? I assume there's nothing integrated into tow mode for a brake controller, because there's no way to adjust brake pressure/bias, etc.

Thanks in advance!

Doug

I'm going through this myself - on the "other" site - A guy on eBay has all of them as a package for a slight discount. Whatever you do, shop around, because Mopar's direct price is TONS higher. If you MUST purchase through Mopar, look for coupons on their site.

thanks! I saw your post as well, a lot of these threads seem to turn into deadends because it seems definite information isn't really clear.

Can you post the ebay link?

I did this to my 2012, it was a total of 4 parts and going to the dealer to have them update & unlock the tow mode.

I don't know which thread it is but I posted all part numbers for this mod. It's very easy but know that the rear bumper must come off.

thanks!

just ordered some parts through my dealer. they were able to get me a great price as I'll be having them do the install for me as well.

mine is a '14, but i ordered the following:

- the hitch
- the SRT embossed bumper bezel
- a 4 pin/7pin connector to plug into

The parts guy confirmed that the '14s are pre-wired, so I don't have to get the harness.

I wanted to order the full size spare kit (with tools) but was told it is not available.

I'll come back after the install and detail labor/parts costs. I won't name the dealer as I have a friend who works there and is able to help me out at least on cost for parts.

Question I have is this; has anyone installed a brake controller? I'd like to do so in mine, but i refuse to have it anywhere in the open. It has to be hidden. I'm thinking center console or something of the sort.

Re: Adding factory tow package to MY2014 SRT

I did a '12 some time ago. Everything is a breeze as long as the self locking tabs in the rear bumper unlatch ok. They are on the sides near the top and you have to push in on the side of the bumper and pull at the same time. It sounds easy, but mine were not in the least. Strange fasteners indeed and unless someone has messed with them before they can be a mystery unlatching. Make sure you bumper is very secure when you pick it up and not scratched from them dropping it once the fasteners are unlocked.

BTW, they are all pre-wired from '12 and up. All you need is the 7 pin adapter to mount inside the cutout of the hitch itself and plug the factory plug to the back of it.

Thanks Hammerhead, this is extremely useful. I will find out more about this first-hand in a few days, I'm sure. Can you shed light where exactly these are? Do we need to pull the bumper off the rear wheel well splash trim? You say push in and pull down, is that right?

It looks like the existing pre-wired harness has a plug in it (to keep it clean?) Any idea how to get the plug out? Does it just turn? I haven't ripped my lower valence off and bothered with this yet, but will soon. It kind of looks like you just twist or pull and it pops out and then I can plug it into the adapter.

Dont forget you also need a dealer visit to activate the sales code for the trailer wiring. Without it, brake lights wont work on the trailer lol. Last i checked, some folks have gotten the flash for free by their dealer where i was quoted $125 for the flash.

The only reason the rear bumper has to come off is to remove the rear steel bumper that is behind the rear valance (or rear plastic bumper) The steel bumper slides into the frame channels, so it just cant be unbolted and dropped out of the bottom. I don't remember the rear wiring plug having a block in it, but it should just pull out. If I remember correctly, I just had to remove one side of my rear valance as it is very flexible. I'm going to try and find the thread here that has the install in details.

Here is my install details after help from other forum members

Trailer hitch option. Anyone added it?
