All Canadian SRT Warranties Voided for US buyer of used vehicle

Maybe this is known or obvious but it was not to me when searching for a used SRT in the Northern states.

A good percentage of the used 14/15 stock up here is Canadian in origin and after I found a juicy target and confirmed it's Canadian origin I chatted with FCA online and they confirmed there are no cases where Chrysler Canada would approve an export/import to keep the warranty intact for a US buyer.

This dates back to '03 ish when all the manufacturers did this to quash the border state games being played.

Your only option is a true third party warranty as the Mopar MVP warranties are only on top of the factory warranties. Maybe there is a way to get MVP coverage without any factory warranty in force but it is likely full of perils that probably won't reveal until it's too late. Also, appearance and cosmetic stuff like trim are not ever covered under the MVP, only bump-to-bump, so that is a definite gap for low mile vehicles.

Shopping online and want to know if it's a Canadian vehicle originally? Plug the VIN in here and "Canada" will be in about 6 places in the equipment listing:

Used SRT shoppers beware....

Re: All Canadian SRT Warranties Voided for US buyer of used vehicle

It's interesting because Audi, BMW, Ford, MB, Toyota/Lexus, Volvo all honour warranties from US vehicles imported to Canada. I would assume the same would hold true when doing the opposite.
I have purshasred a Toyota and a Lexus from the US and have never had an issue with warranty.
Chrysler voids warranties from US cars coming to Canada, so it makes sense they do it when importing the other way.
Not sure why anyone would want a SRT vehicle from Canada as the warranty is only 3/36k miles on the entire vehicle including power train. We don't even get a 5/60k powertrain warranty let alone the 100k mile warranty that the US enjoys.

Exactly. Nobody seeks them out but it is hard to avoid them as they are about 1/4 of the used SRT's in the northern states from what I have encountered and oblivious US buyers assume it's got the balance of US 3/36 btb and 5/100 pt warranties. Some dealers know the warranty voiding so they offer 3rd party plans built in to the deal but many either know and play "Sgt Schultz" or just don't know and the buyer is stuck with no balance of warranty.

Found a sweet '14 today with 19k for $49k with HK, Pano, Tow and the Lux ll advertised with its factory warranties. After my call its being sold as-is no warranty.

Prior to my call the buyer would have no idea until they went to use the non-existant warranty.

No more 5/100 powertrain warranty anywhere, all 2016 FCA vehicles dropped to 5/60 now.

Agreed, however I think the OP was writing about used 14/15's that if from the US would have the 100k warranty I believe.

I don't think the 16's are out yet, let alone can be found used.

OP, that is interesting about the quantity of used SRT's in the Northern States. There sure is not a lot of stock (either new or used) here in Ontario.
For the last roughly 7 years the USD has been low and/or the CND strong making things much cheaper for Canadians to buy in the US.
Only recently did the tables turn, I guess dealers are quick to jump on CND vehicles with a 30% + currency discount.
I bought a new Toyota Tacoma a few years ago. Worked out to almost $13,000 cheaper buying from the US, and the warranty was still intact.
I checked about doing the same on a SRT JGC, but like you was deterred by not having any warranty coverage.

I am also deterred about buying a new SRT from Canada due to the lack of 5y/100k (or at least 5y/60k). I think only getting 3y/36k warranty at this price point is telling, and also the level of service from FCA is poor when compared to other manufacturers.
I think if FCA wants to play at this price point, they will have to up there game, although performance wise you can't beat the JGC for the money IMO.

Yep, there is definitely an economic reason behind it and I just wanted to pass along what I learned as it was a bit of a "whoa!" to me.

Re: All Canadian SRT Warranties Voided for US buyer of used vehicle

When I went to buy my car, the exchange rate made taking a trip to Ontario sound appealing. After a week worth of calls, I realized buying a new car and bringing it over was impossible and that a used one would be pointless without a warranty.

It seemed like a great idea for a few days.

Re: All Canadian SRT Warranties Voided for US buyer of used vehicle

I was sitting down at a small town dealer ready to sign the paperwork when I thankfully discovered this on my own accord. Dealer tried everything to still sell me the vehicle anyway and played everything from the "I didn't know" game to trying to make me believe the warranty was still in-tact. I ran away from that potential nightmare and found a US model for slightly more, but in better condition.
