Specified price from dealer means nothing if Chryco decides to not honor the price protection. Others on this forum are already hearing that their orders are not being honored.

Well I guess at that point it is very simple.........

my dealer can eat up the difference or refund my credit card......

Life goes on with or without the WK2.......

The price protection needs to be entered in a specific manor. The price will be honored on the invoice that is billed when the vehicle is shipped. I wouldn't worry about what some dealers are seeing on cars on order. The invoice for the vehicle hasn't even been created. The price increase is for vehicles on order after 08/10/11.
Did anyone read the post by Milous?

Re: Alternatives to the overpriced WK2 SRT8

It appears from the MBUSA website, you can now order a cls550 4matic. An ED delivery of mid December is available. The one I am looking at has a US MSRP of $81,805 with an ED savings of about $6k, of course I will spend at least half of that on the vacation.

Is this better than the Jeep? For me, yes all things considered.

Can it tow? No, Can you put your dog in the back? Not really. Will it be faster around a track. I bet it will. Will it's cost of ownership be lower than the Jeep? Only time will tell, but I believe it will be over a 3-4yr period.

Look how the RWD version compares to the 300 SRT8 (in the charts)

Does anyone want to buy a pristine 2009 Modern Blue SRT8 in January for $20k less than the 2012 Jeep SRT8?

My personal requirements are: Seats 4, AWD, similar or better performance, within $15k initially in price and has a reasonable cost of ownership for 3 yrs (i.e. depreciation, maintenance, fuel, insurance).

Alternatives (these can be used or new):

WK SRT8
2011 +BMW 550xi with Dinan upgrade
2012 MB CLS 550 4matic (will be released this fall)
2011+ MB E550 4matic
2008-2009 MB S550 4matic
2009-2010 BMW 750xi
Used 2010 BMW X5M
Used GTR (?)
2011 Audi S4
2011 Audi S5

I did not include the Overland because of it's performance, what alternative vehicles am I missing?

I did not include the RWD vehicles that have 4 seats since they would get stuck in my driveway (M5, CTS V, Charger, 300, Challenger). I had a Charger R/T R&T pkg that was a great car until it snowed.
M3 sedan. It will beat anything on your list around a track with the exception of the GTR possibly.

A Cayenne Turbo is hardy an alternative, same with an X5M. They're way out of the price range.

An alternative does NOT mean it has to be an SUV. It means it needs to be something within his requirements (price and performance) if he was looking for a comparative vehicle, then ya, none of those would make sense. But that's not what he asked.
The M3 with a set of 18" Blizzaks goes like an SUV in the snow. And a blast to drive in the snow with the limited slip.
