Another tire decision

Looking for some input. I need 4 tires, I don't need all season and I don't need runflats.

Discount Tire is running a sale, $75 - $100 off 4 tires and some manufacturers are also doing rebates.

I've narrowed it down to 3 contenders

It's between the Toyo STII, General UHP or Hankook RH06. I can get either one for about $670 installed after rebates.

I'm leaning towards the Generals based on their being basically a Continental UHP carcus with US specific tread and compound.

Not interesting in the Yokohama's or $475/copy Pirelli's and was considering the KDW2's but they are on national backorder.

I'm looking for someone with experience with 2 or maybe even all 3 of these tires for some insight. Reading online reviews is rather fruitless when one says best tire and the one directly below it says they are crap.....

Re: Another tire decision

I had the ST2's on a durango and I didnt like them at all. Wet grip was terrible. If a 300hp v6 will spin the tires...your SRT will light them up. Not too good in the rail, puddles either.

Re: Another tire decision

Agree with Scott on Toyo"s. Had them on my Jeep for one day and took them back for refund. Went back with OEM Scorpions Verdes and the ride between them two is like night and day. Check out ebay, sometimes you can find great deal on them.

No, the selection of tires in our size is dismal at best. I was hoping something like the continental DWS but since they own General and General has the UHP they aren't making it in our size. I did read from someone who works at Conti that the UHP and the Extreme share the same internal design but the tread and compound is different to account for American roads and tastes.

Michelin doesn't really make a performance tire in the SUV sizes aside from the Diamaris which is not really all that great a tire. Only the Asian makers seem to cater to SUV / Crossovers and probably only because the the lucrative +1 and +2 markets. Their tires tend to be more about look than substance with the tread design being the major selling point.

then in this case, u should consider changing the wheels on ur car to find a good tire set

they do have the DWS in a 295\40\20

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....WSXL&tab=Sizes

roughly .5" short sidewall.

Which even I am highly considering due the costs of OEM's

I'm actually running the Conti DWS's in that's size and they are great. I even used them during an autocross and I was amazed with how much grip they had to offer.

How many miles do you have on them? I'm trying to escape not buying a winter set of rims and tires.

You lost me here, are you suggesting dropping another 3 grand on 22's so I can buy $200 tires for them LOL.

I love the wheels on the SRT, they aren't the problem.

I thought about it but with the heavy towing I do I don't want to give up any load rating and the higher revs/mile sure won't help the dismal MPG.

I ordered the Generals today, Discount Tire had a $75 rebate on top of the $70 General rebate so OTD for $680 mounted, balanced and tax. thats a whole lot better than $2100 for the Pirelli's. They should be in late next week (the holiday messes everything up).

Re: Another tire decision

I suppose a difference of 0.5 in sidewall isn't that big of a deal plus you might get a stiffer feel but not as stiff as the run-flats and much more tire options. What difference has it made on your speedometer and/or has it been calibrated to the new tires?

Heard lots of good things about the Yokohama Parada-X. They make it in the 295/45/20 size non-Run Flat in 'V' rating not 'Y'. Perhaps not necessary unless you are tracking it, heavily modifying it, or cruising the Autobahn.
