Aussie Group Buy: Supercharger!

Hi All,

I've been in contact with RIPP Superchargers who have kindly offered a discount if we are able to get a suitably sized gaggle of Australian SRT owners (5 or more) together to purchase as a group. The magic discount number will be held close to my chest, however I can tell you I think it is worth it.

If you are wondering what the RIPP Supercharger Kit is, basically it is currently the best aftermarket supercharger kit for the current model Jeep SRT IF you intend to keep the rest of your drive train stock. Essentially it is the gentlemen's supercharger kit made for day to day driveability, reliability and even highway based fuel economy and using Aussie fuel you should expect 450~500whp, 0~100kph times around 4 seconds and highway fuel consumption of about 10l/100kms. Thanks to Nathan being the guinea pig, the units purchased via this group buy will have the modifications made so as to comply with Australian regulations.

If you are seriously interested, here are a few peripheral costs/considerations you should account for in your budgeting before contacting me;
  • Exchange Rate: It ain't 2012 anymore, add approx 15% to the USD price to get the Aus $$ allowing for exchange rate & fees
  • Customs: 10% of unit cost
  • Shipping: A single unit costs around $400USD, however as the preference for the group buy units will be mass delivered to Melbourne it should be less. Allow for onward freight for a box 92cm x 38cm x 38cm @ 29.5kg if you are not a Melbourne local.
  • Installation: Get a rough idea from a local installer, should be under $2k.
  • Insurance: You may need to change insurance providers. JustCars should be able to insure you with after market performance mods.
  • Effects on warranty: At the very least, this mod may void your warranty if it can be attributed to the cause of any issues.
  • Engineers certificate: For legal registration as a modified vehicle, around $1500. Will also be required for insurance.

If you have read everything above and are still serious about wanting to get one of these kits, please email me using the email below for further details. I'll be looking to wrap this up by the end of November at the latest.

Re: Aussie Group Buy: RIPP Supercharger!

Great Idea and you may also get some interest for a Group Buy from installers / certifiers. FYI - I've got an emission test booked for next Wed so lets see how badly I fail!

Spewin- I paid for mine 4 days ago in the West through my shop. By the way, thinking your figure of 2k for install is light on. Closer to 3 from what I understand.

Hope you get enough interest for a group buy.

Awesome idea. I'll see if I can hunt down any installers / certifiers locally in Melbourne.

Man, so close. Hope I get enough interest too. Really great opportunity for those who (like me) have been sitting on the fence. Thanks for the tip on estimated install price. Mind you, Given that RIPP quote a 5~6 hour install I wouldn't have thought it should get as high as $3k. Think Nathan paid around $1800 in labour and another couple of hundred in parts. I am planning to get a post install dyno test, so mine will likely be more.

Re: Aussie Group Buy: RIPP Supercharger!

I based my figure on my shop(Marks Workshop) and there advice. They want my car for 3 days. Install, Dyno tune and sending of map to RIPP to customise as well.

My guys have already SC a SRT with a RIPP unit, but stock everything. I'm fitting bigger throttle body, CAI and exhaust. Will need more time on Dyno to somewhat customise the tune. Everything I read and from what my shop tells me, these jeeps are hard to get a full custom tune done. Doesn't seem to be do-able just yet.

Personally I can't see the point of spending all that money on go fast, and then not getting a Dyno tune done. Leaving potential horsepower and torque on the table, let alone if the initial tune is not feeding enough, or too much fuel into the motor.

I get my Harley's full custom Dyno tunes each time I chase extra horses and torque. Never had an issue with my bikes in all these years.

Good luck with a group buy

Ah yes, different kettle of fish . I've seen the RIPP SC YouTube clip from Marks Workshop, was actually part of what I used to estimate the expected whp here for Australia. Some pretty serious projects in their gallery. Yeah, for the extras you are putting on plus a custom tune, I can see where the $3k is coming from. Will be really interested to see your results.

I'll take one. Ripp don't respond to emails very often. So I hope it's a smooth transaction

Re: Aussie Group Buy: RIPP Supercharger!

Great stuff luster! Please do email me (rippgroupbuy@ozsrt.club) so we can discuss the discount, payment and delivery preferences.

While I am at it, I have been getting a few emails with common questions, so thought I'd address them here for all.

- Part of the group buy deal is that the discount amount is not splashed about the place. As such, I'll only be disclosing this info to people dead set on being a part of the group buy.

- This can obviously create a catch 22, so as a rule of thumb guidance I'll say this. If you were already going to get the RIPP kit or were just teetering on the edge then this group buy will be a well worth it, however if the full price as it is puts it comfortably out of your reach then it probably isn't going to be enough for you.

- Yes, to my knowledge you should not *need* to have the additional cost of having the car custom tuned in over and above installation costs if there are no other modifications to the car. Assuming the install is done fully and correctly, it should be safe to drive away with RIPP's own tune. I will ask RIPP for advise around this one though.

- No, I do not have a soft copy of the install instructions. Good point though, will ask RIPP for this also.

Re: Aussie Group Buy: Supercharger!

For those not following my Australian RIPP Install (RHD) thread the supplied RIPP Tune is great as is.

RIPP provide you with an Diablo InTune that allows you to create logs to send back to them (they normally want a "Cold Start", a "Run", and a "Post Run" log). They then send you a new tune that you upload to the car, and repeat. I've now down this a few times and the current tune is great.... I even just passed the IM240 emissions test with it. I'd imaging that with all the logs they have done and refining the tunes you would get the latest as part of the kit.

In summary, their SC Kit and Tune for me has :
- dropped 1sec of my 0-100 time and makes the beast much more responsive
- is slightly better fuel economy with normal driving
- passed the Engineers Tests (install, noise, and braking)
- passed the IM240 emissions test

If anyone wants to know more, let me know. I have it installed and working. Happy RIPP Customer.

Thanks
Nathan

Re: Aussie Group Buy: Supercharger!

I've added my name to the list! I take delivery this month of my 2015 Black SRT. tHe RIPP SC is going to be one of my first mods.

I'm also looking to add some Kooks Headers, high flow cats and possibly a Corsa Exhaust. Does anybody know of a good shop in South East QLD? I was considering (East Coast Customs) but I'm definitely open to suggestions. I'm guessing the headers and exhaust are going to require a custom tune, so I'd prefer somewhere with a dyno and top-notch tuning experience.

Cheers,
Bill

Re: Aussie Group Buy: Supercharger!

How is the GB going, got enough yet?

I have to say I LOVE my RIPP SC SRT. It is just great and now all the certification / emission testing stuff is done I feel much more comfortable giving it a blaattt in public.
