I wouldn't want to back my SRT into salt water. JMHO

What car would you want to ever back into salt water. Reality is, its going to happen and if you are trading your car up every 5 years, it shouldnt ever pose you a problem.

Its just one of the joys of boat ownership.

In addition it is no different than driving around the northeast through a hard winter. Salt so thick the car turns white, mixed with slop and grime and forced in every nook and cranny on your underbody with highspeed highway travel.

I dip in the ocean seems pretty tame to me...

Are you launching from the sand? If so, then I could see how you might have to "dip" the SRT in a little. Still, you can't be up to the axles.....right?

Can you launch from a ramp and not have to touch the water at all with the Jeep? When I launched my boat from a ramp, the vehicle never even touched the water.

Has anybody been "offroad" as yet using snow mode and can comment on the traction provided.

I understand that the clearance of the SRT8 doesnt provide for anything hardcore but Im hoping soft roading isnt altogether excluded.
I have used the snow mode in the snow and I have to say the traction was great and I had no issues pushing though 8 inches of snow.

Soft roading not an issue with the SRT and ground clearance is not that bad actually (better than most sedans and similar to say an X5). The only problem is the bouncy ride due to the firm suspension on very bumpy roads..

Re: Blasphemy? SRT8 With Offroad Ability?

Thanks for all of the feedback. It appears it will suit my needs perfectly.

I probably will be using the ramp 95% of the time with the very odd occassion being a beach launch. I rarely have to get any more than just the tyres a little wet when launching my ski because of the steep ramps we have here in WA.

A Jeep with it's "Jeepness" removed. Having my '06 SRT8 in Mexico is a wonderful thing. It does pretty good in rough stuff. Rocks. Holes. Sand. And these are the paved roads. Deep, soft, sand is a problem. And rock crawing is out. I chin tuck is considered, along with a spare set of wheels and tires. Not a real big expense to have a Jeep for all things.

Re: Blasphemy? SRT8 With Offroad Ability?

The really great thing about Jeep is, they make a vehicle for any of your desires. Wanna go off-road? ...There are several Jeeps for that, right up to the power and luxury of the Overland. Wanna go racing?....there is also one for that.
