Brake Fluid

Hey All,

I changed the front pads on my 2012 SRT. This is the second set of pads i put on (HAWK) and I am at 80,000 miles now. Truth be told the pads i took out probably would have lasted another 20,000 miles but once i was in there I was intent on finishing the job.

Now for the fun part. My brake pins were sagging and bent! I had to use a die grinder to cut them out. I couldn't get the 3rd large pin knocked out either due to corrosion so i had to remove the caliper and pound it out on the bench!

Anyhow, i overnighted 4 brand new pins and had everything back together this morning. Here is the reason for my post...

CHECK YOUR BRAKE FLUID. My pedal hasn't maintained the stiffness from when i first purchased my jeep brand new 5 years ago. The fluid that came out when bleeding was disgusting! Filled with water and contaminants. I flushed what i could but ran out of fresh fluid so it will be back to the garage tomorrow to finish the job and get the remainder of the nasty stuff out. Anyhow good luck with your rigs.

Very Best,

Dotcom

Re: Brake Fluid

Hey, planning to do this job myself. Any pointers or DYI writeup available somewhere?

Re: Brake Fluid

Personally I'd rather pay the dealer $100 to do it. Reason being (from what I've heard), they can move the fluid out from the ABS system electronically and we can't, so you'll still have dirty fluid in there... unless you flush it, force ABS to activate (e.g. gravel road), then flush again.
