Re: Brake Squeal

After cutting or turning the rotors, the rotors need to be wash with warm water and soap to wash away the small metal particles. The warm water and soap break the magnetic effect of the turning. Otherwise these metal particles will be come embeded in the new pads creating noise. If one replaces the turned rotors then they will have to replace the pads as well.

Re: Brake Squeal

What is the temp outside?

I noticed both last year (stock Brembos/pads) and now this year (new cross drilled rotors/hawk pads) below freezing I get a squeal until they get warmed... yesterday (drove 2 hours in salt spray/sub 20 degrees) - they were sounding rough... this morning (5 degrees) had some nice neighbor waking squeals leaving the sub.

That's weird, because mine are opposite. In the summer, mine howl. When it was cooler last winter/early spring, they were silent. I'm looking forward to it cooling off again here in hopes they'll quite down again.

I just installed Hawks on mine because the stock pads were squealing when dirty/dusty. So far so good, dead silent.

Did you bed them in correctly after installing? My brakes were smoking after bedding them in on Saturday morning. This is after 10 70ish-20 hard stops on the highway. Look at that color:

I know the factory Brembo's squeal like crazy, so I'm happy to ditch them for less dust/noise

Re: Brake Squeal

It looks like I have been one of the unlucky ones to get the annoying squeal twice. I had Hawk ceramics on the front and rear of my 14' and they started to make noise after a while. I then tried the hawk ceramics on the front and stop techs on the rear of my 15' and they make noise as well. It is so annoying! I'm now getting ready to order brembo cross drilled rotors for the front and rear and a new set of hawks and see what happens. Anybody find a solution that stops the squeal other than going back to stock pads?

Great solution...put a s/c on it, blow a hole through the block. Look at it sitting in the garage - no squeal!

J/K! I replaced my Hawks twice, different pastes on the pad backs, sanded the rotors, lightly turned the rotors, etc. - they always squealed when it was over 75* outside under light pedal pressure. I never tried to change the rotors, but I've heard good results from the Brembo replacements. Good luck!

Are you putting the new pads on New Rotors these are hard ROTORS and the pads are really finicky this is just like the 05-10 brakes unless you are putting them on new suff you always run the risk of squeal. Typically it does go away over time just takes a while for the pads to bed the rotor.

I can almost guarantee if you do new Rotors and New pads since the pads you have are now used you will not get squeel at all. I don't like saying anything with a Guarantee but I'm pretty confident that the New Pads and New Rotors will do the trick.

Or try this have your rotors turned did you have the OEM rotors turned before you put pads on em?

Brakes on the SRT Brembo systems have always been like this ask Scott I know he has had his rounds with em and tested just about everything out their. They are super finicky and anything done wrong can result is ill effect I know I can do em successfully if I go slow and pay real close attention to everything every step of the way and bed them properly. We sell 100's of pads yearly and less than 1% have problems and most of those are because they where either not bedded properly or put on old rotors. Just keep all surfaces clean use lubs keeping clean best advise I can give.

Re: Brake Squeal

Currently suffering the ""squeal" again.

9K miles on new rotors and (stock) pads.

Squealing horribly on *every* stop in local/city driving.

Had it in at the dealer last week. Service advisers response to my complaint: "dirt on the brakes, or the cold weather". Yeah, okay
