Buying: '14 SRT

Gang,

After a lot of research (and no test drive yet!) Im ready to jump in & get a '14 SRT. Im a long time BMW owner & lover, but after taking it to the shop one too many times, and getting a F150 as a rental, I fell in love with sitting up higher. And with the fam I wanted something I could put stuff in... but I need a V8 and performance. Enter the SRT.

Questions:
for whatever reason there are NO used '14 SRTs within 250 miles of me in San Diego. If I drive a current year model at the Chrysler dealer (I assume theyll have ONE) is that representative?

My friend is a member on Manheim Auctions. This is another path for me. Any input or thoughts on taking that plunge on this car? Others experience savings or too much risk?

Thanks, Chris
(Im coming here from Bimmerforum. good by e60 group!).

Re: Buying: '14 SRT

250 miles is chump distance. Go at least 500. Take a day or two off work. I drove a 1,000 mile round trip in a day for a vehicle. It's a big investment, so make it the best you can out of it.

A '16 will be very representative of a '14. A few cosmetic changes, but that's mostly it.

I wouldn't use Manheim for the sole fact that you don't know what you're getting. That's a lot to risk for the asking price.

Good luck!

They have at least one 2016 SRT at the jeep dealership in Mission Valley. I pass it pretty much everyday on my way to work. Good luck with the purchase !

Re: Buying: '14 SRT

I got my 14' with 4k miles on it; saved over $18k off sticker!!! Jeep has been a beast! I would recommend a late 13'-early 14' builds as the early 13' builds had some quality issues. I have 21k miles on it now and could not be happier. I have had my fair share of small issues (nothing power-train related; mainly body panel/fitment issues), so overall it is a bad a$$ rig! I get +20 mpg's @ 80mph, 3.9 0-60 and can fit 5 people with 3 days worth of bags and be in Vegas in 4 hours...haha it is a 400 mile trip

Re: Buying: '14 SRT

I was all set to make a 2,000 mile roadtrip to Montana buy when one popped up 300 miles from me. 11k miles 2014 and the guy never used the SRT Track Experience. Saved almost $20k off sticker.

Theres a white '14 on eBay with 9k miles in Anaheim for sale by JStar Auto Group. Asking $55k, should be able to get $3-4k off that

Re: Buying: '14 SRT

Thats good input gang, thank you.

As Ive said, I havent even test driven one yet, but Im basically sold. Every credible review says its the car I want: an unholy mashup of an SUV & powerful sports car. It is the thing that should not be.

That said, how is your daily driving when you get stuck in traffic? (Yes, Im going to eventually actually drive one, but Im asking). I do like comfort when I want it. Dont want something too stiff or offroady all the time...

Thoughts?

BTW, found a 16 I can test drive 10 miles from me...

It's very good at daily driver drudgery... adaptive cruise control is great for traffic...in sport mode it's docile and a nice ride but ready to throw down ?de08...when u drive the '16 make sure u know how to handle the salesman when he sees that zhit eatin' grin on your face, etc as he will realize they "have you" ?de02

Awesome.
Ill give him my best Maroney: not impressed. Also Ill give him a fake phone number.

So smooth ride when you want it? I like that. Was a bit afeared of the Jeep name & getting a rough ride ALL the time. Sometimes I like just sitting on a couch ya know?

The real couch is a JGC with an air ride like the Summit, that is lux...the SRT is sprung and has wide performance tires so you use that for all it's worth in Track mode (very stiff suspension, corners AWESOME) or tool around in Sport mode ready to play but not beating your brains out in between play dates...the wide tires can tram line alot on grooved, channeled roads, etc.. when worn but are fine on decent roads....don't forget the tires are run flats so that limits the luxo ride but absolutely rails corners...

When you drive the '16 he will show you the new to '16+ custom drive modes which allows you to create your own "ride" profile versus the canned ones on the 14/15 so don't get too jazzed on those

Also, since u r a bimmer guy the 16 has all electronic steering vs the 14/15 which is hydraulic assist so if you like/dislike the steering feel of the 16 realize a 14/15 is "normal" in feel, for a Jeep...

Re: Buying: '14 SRT

Found mine at a Caddy dealer 3 miles from home while looking at the cars.com app on a whim. Test drove just to see what an SRT Jeep was like with no intention of buying anything and after the test drive couldn't get it out of my mind. 24 hours later went back and drove it home. $24k off sticker, 18months in service, 19k miles with brand new Pirellis and front pads / rotors. Original owner traded the lease on an Escalade.

Note on the Adaptive Cruise and use in traffic, '14's disconnect at 18 mph, '15's at zero after a few seconds and '16's hold at zero. Not worth thousands of extra $'s but something to consider if you do a lot of bumper to bumper time.

Agree on the not worth thousands but it's been reported that the '16 did not get the true hold just the same as 15 Stop-n-go (2 sec hold)....the 3rd gen owner's manual for 16 states 2 sec hold...oh well things change...same great motor
