How well does the paint match and what color do you have? That's what's really holding me back.. but I just rolled 31K so I'm thinking I need to do it before 36K just to make sure I don't get any backlash.

Black and the paint matches just fine.

I did however find that near the hood scoops the orange peel is not so nice. The other hood with dings had smoother finish. I will give it a little while and fricking wetsand and buff the damn thing myself. I just want to be sure that they sprayed sufficient clear coat.

I specifically want orange peel, not a perfectly smooth finish. My vehicle, and likely yours too, has orange peel from the factory all over.

Orange peel is standard factory finish now. Lol. Mine has it too. If you paint a door or fender you want to match the orange peel.

Re: Calling All WK2 SRTs With "corroded" Hoods

My dealership has their own body/collision shop. One of the (younger looking) guys came out and said "you caught it early - we can just do an underside fix." Is he full of shit? Is this just a temporary band-aid, to repaint that lip under the hood? He mentioned if when they peel back the paint there, if it is worse than they expected, they will do more than just an "underside" fix. Either way, sounds like a terrible fix to me. If you're going to break the paint, I feel like the whole things needs repainted. Please let me know what I need to push for based on these pics below fellas. They're a little dated but mostly accurate. That 1st picture has grown in size slightly and is easily push in with a fingernail. That 4th picture is still a break in the paint, but it is extremely small.

The 2nd and 3rd pictures, there is a line/blemish with slight give, but more concerning... look at the corner of the hood where the lips meet. Is that a break in the paint - what am I seeing there? (ignore the white hard water spots) The 4th/last picture is another bubble that doesn't really give, but is in the same spot on the seam as the 1st picture...

FWIW I am under 3/36 still. Will they do anything?

Re: Calling All WK2 SRTs With "corroded" Hoods

Imo it will work its way to the front.. Push for a replacement. When I had my limited, the underside was blistered along the seam and the paint had cracked in some of them. I never noticed any of this until it showed up on the leading edge of the hood, it looked like my jeep had a bad case of herpes.

My dealer first told me it was gonna be repainted in which I agreed. Then called me back to say they will be replacing it instead.

He is right from his knowledge and point of view, he probably can fix it but he likely is unaware that the origin of the problem is something to do with pre-paint factory prep combined with the design inside between the rib structure and alum outer skin...the most current number I (and my helpful dealer parts guy) is:

Hood and Related Parts - PANEL, Hood
Part# 68040264AF (prior versions end with AB, AC, AD, AE)

The parts guy said the dates for the AB-AF revisions are jumbled and make no sense so he cannot confirm that the supposedly "revised" version that addresses this issue properly at the origin is the AF one. This is not just SRT's, regular GC hoods have the same problem and as of a month ago the parts guy said 250+ hoods for regular GC's were on backorder....

Punchline is IIWM (and it will be in the spring) I would only accept the "new" corrected design/prep hood as I am convinced that a repaint of the same hood will eventually (1-3 yrs) be a problem again...question is how to confirm the latest version and then how to ensure you get it....

Re: Calling All WK2 SRTs With "corroded" Hoods

Just noticed a quarter size spot bubbling just above the passenger side headlight. Dealership got an approval for repairs. From my understanding they will be stripping the current hood and repainting. Dropping her off on Monday to get the process started.

You need to make sure they give you a new hood. It will just come back in about a year if they dont.

FWIW....sorry for spreading what is guaranteed a BS theory/story.....noticed a second bubble cracked and when scouring the underside I noticed the faint date and part # stamp on mine.....the "latest" "revised" part #68040264AF with a date stamp of "09 17 14".....so even if they made changes in the "AF" version the changes didn't matter as mine is off to the races for corrosion....

Re: Calling All WK2 SRTs With "corroded" Hoods

I am getting my hood repainted in about 3 weeks. I just wonder if it is going to come back... Maybe I should be getting an aftermarket hood...
