He mentioned if when they peel back the paint there, if it is worse than they expected, they will do more than just an "underside" fix. Either way, sounds like a terrible fix to me. If you're going to break the paint, I feel like the whole things needs repainted. Please let me know what I need to push for based on these pics below fellas. They're a little dated but mostly accurate. That 1st picture has grown in size slightly and is easily push in with a fingernail. That 4th picture is still a break in the paint, but it is extremely small.
He is right from his knowledge and point of view, he probably can fix it but he likely is unaware that the origin of the problem is something to do with pre-paint factory prep combined with the design inside between the rib structure and alum outer skin...the most current number I (and my helpful dealer parts guy) is:
Hood and Related Parts - PANEL, Hood
Part# 68040264AF (prior versions end with AB, AC, AD, AE)
The parts guy said the dates for the AB-AF revisions are jumbled and make no sense so he cannot confirm that the supposedly "revised" version that addresses this issue properly at the origin is the AF one. This is not just SRT's, regular GC hoods have the same problem and as of a month ago the parts guy said 250+ hoods for regular GC's were on backorder....
Punchline is IIWM (and it will be in the spring) I would only accept the "new" corrected design/prep hood as I am convinced that a repaint of the same hood will eventually (1-3 yrs) be a problem again...question is how to confirm the latest version and then how to ensure you get it....
