Re: Calling All WK2 SRTs With Rusty Hoods

Re: Calling All WK2 SRTs With Rusty Hoods

Actually, should have no problem getting covered for 5 yrs/unlimited miles under the corrosion warranty:

2.2 Corrosion Warranty...

B. What’s Covered
This warranty covers the cost of all parts and labor needed to repair or replace any sheet metal panels that get holes from rust or other corrosion. If a hole occurs because of something other than corrosion, this warranty does not apply. Cosmetic or surface corrosion — resulting, for example, from stone chips or scratches in the paint — is not covered. For more details on what isn’t covered by this warranty, see 3.5.

C. How Long It Lasts
The Corrosion Warranty starts when your Basic Limited Warranty begins under 2.1(E).
This warranty has two time-and-mileage limits:
• For sheet metal panels, the limit is 36 months, with no mileage limit.
• For an outer-body sheet metal panel — one that is finish-painted and that someone can see when walking around the vehicle — the limits are 5 years or unlimited miles on the odometer, whichever occurs first.

Interesting that the corrosion all seems to be at the same relative position on the hood.

But it says "If a hole occurs..." That's where they try to screw you.

Sure they could pull that technicality and let it fest until the damage is worse and repair costs r higher so CYA and take extremely detailed pics and get it documented with a service visit within corrosion warranty terms. If u wait until a rock breaks the bubbles you would likely be exposed to the "external forces" argument.

Re: Calling All WK2 SRTs With Rusty Hoods

The corrosion warranty only covers holes. And none of the pics show holes, I think a different approach would be to say that the hood was improperly prepared/sealed. The paint bubbles are indicative are corrosion and something is causing that corrosion.

So, the paint bubbling is the symptom. The problem is whatever is causing the paint to bubble (Ford had problems with F150s and mustangs with iron particles getting on the aluminum hood before painting). Not sure what the problem is with these hoods. I would ask the dealer why the paint is bubbling and why it isn't covered under the 3/36.

And a simple respray is just a band aid that takes care of the symptom, but not the problem.

I had the same thing happen on a 2013 Jeep and got the hood replaced under warranty (2 years / 18K miles at the time).

The dealership took pics and sent them in to Jeep, who had to approve the repairs (they did without me having to argue). But if they were going to deny it, then that was the route I was going to take with them.

Good luck guys

Re: Calling All WK2 SRTs With "corroded" Hoods

Good luck getting that covered under warranty.

And I have to double check for any bubbles under the hood.
