Calling All WK2 SRTs With "corroded" Hoods

Mine is the front lip just over the inside edge of the driver's side headlight.

I'm confident my dealer will stand behind it at the 23 month in service, 20,000 mile point.

Re: Calling All WK2 SRTs With "corroded" Hoods

I had the exact same problem and had it fixed under warranty. They actually ordered a unpainted factory SRT hood and primed and painted it. I was told they didn't want to fix and repaint the old hood because Chrysler wanted to send the hood out and tear it apart to see why they are doing this. Looked to me and the manager of the body shop agreed that there was moisture building up inside the underside of the front where the aluminum rolls under and into the engine bay. Now I purchased the Mopar Max Care warranty and I don't know if they classified the repair costs under the factory warranty or the Mopar warranty. The Jeep had 33k on it when I had it replaced!!

Glad it worked out for u....had to b factory btb or corrosion warranty as the Mopay extended service plans don't cover int/ext body panels for any reason.

This has me thinking maybe I should spray my CorrosionX in those holes under lead edge as it will wick itself 100% into that edge crevice/joint....Hmmm

My 14 srt had the paint bubble as well. It was still under factory warranty and was fixed. The paint warranty does go extended beyond the factory, if you are out of warranty just call and ask a jeep dealer. That's what a Chicago dealer told me. Good luck.

Just to clarify for othere..there is no "paint" warranty that exists in writing that I have seen...not trying to nitpick just don't want folks thinking they have a true paint warranty beyond 3/36...it's either something like corrosion that was covered under the corrosion warranty or a paint defect they got covered under the factory btb warranty...."nice" dealers have latitude on what they choose to call the issue and, thus, changing how FCA sees it as a warranty claim plus there's is always the good 'ole "customer satisfaction" category that FCA may choose to use...

Re: Calling All WK2 SRTs With "corroded" Hoods

My 2015 HA has over 100 small bubbles on the leading edge toward the windshield. I'm sure it's just a matter of time before it leads to corrosion. Will be requesting they swap my hood with another one on the lot at next oil change. Don't want a body shop painted hood on a brand new vehicle...

Re: Calling All WK2 SRTs With "corroded" Hoods

I agree I would never want a repaint on new jeep like that but id say you'd be pretty lucky to get a dealer to swap a hood from a new one off the lot like that. my guess is they will decline and want to repaint but good luck

Re: Calling All WK2 SRTs With "corroded" Hoods

Hmm well I just went out and looked at my hood on my 2014 summit and looks like mine is rusting or corroding or whatever you want to call it also. The front edge of the hood doesn't have anything but a bunch of drips of clear coat all over the place but these pictures below are from the side edge of the hood on the passengers side. At first I thought it was just something that had been painted over but its not and is clearly a failing paint at 3 years old (3/36 ended a month ago). My last two vehicles one foreign and one American didn't have a hint of rust and the paint looked great after 10 years of sitting out in the elements. If these bubbles start breaking and paint starts falling off of this jeep at 3 years old, that plus the 2014 beta test will make this my first and last Chrysler product. the question is also will the falling off paint remain under the hood or will it continue to eat its way towards the paint finish on top which is what I am more concerned with. we do get a little road salt here but nothing like the north easterners. Guess will see how it goes but these pictures don't look very encouraging.

Re: Calling All WK2 SRTs With "corroded" Hoods

The ford mustangs had this exact same problem on the hood and the trunk. They would not cover it under warranty as corrosion because according to the rust warranty it was not 'perforated'. So if that is the case with jeep , punch a hole in it and voila you have perforation.

Re: Calling All WK2 SRTs With "corroded" Hoods

The aluminum hood on my '06 Charger SRT8 corroded as well, after 3 years. It appeared to be caused by surface contamination under the paint. The hood was repaired under warranty.

Re: Calling All WK2 SRTs With "corroded" Hoods

Just got the dealer to take some pics and submit to FCA for approval. The body shop for the dealership suggested a replacement.
