Any update on this? I Took my 14 limited in last Thursday for the same issue, they took some pictures but haven't heard anything back.

Just gauging how long I should wait before I hound them.

They requested more pictures of the underneath seam to see if it will be a repaint or replacement, so the warranty manager assumes. Waiting for feedback...

Re: Calling All WK2 SRTs With "corroded" Hoods

How many are garage kept and how many are parked outside? I keep mine outside in the weather all year around. This is my 4th wk2 and haven't had an issue. Is this weather related or bad prep work from the factory?

It's bad prep work. There are a ton of 2015s I have seen already with issues. This is gonna cost Jeep a pretty penny to pay for replacement hoods and paint from body shops.

Mine is half garaged half outside. Its just bad quality no vehicle should rust or corroded like this thats not even 3 years old yet reguardless of the elements. My last car had aluminum hood, roof and doors and it had zero rust or corrosion after 10 years of the same elements.

Mine is garage kept. I'm sure it's issues with prep.

Re: Calling All WK2 SRTs With "corroded" Hoods

Mine is also garaged- the hood has been repaired once after my dealer's bodyshop claimed the obvious internal corrosion was a paint flaw (...the bubble appeared in the paint almost overnight) and that all they'd have to do is cut the bubble down with some compound, which then turned into filler and paint, presumably because they discovered what I told them was accurate- corrosion, not a paint flaw.

Mind you, I keep this goddamn vehicle spotless all winter long, and now ALL the urethane along the inter edge of the hood is bubbling up, and the exterior of the hood has one half dollar-sized blister coming through above the inner corner of the PS headlight.

Seems to me there's probably a core reinforcement in that area coming in contact with the skin which wasn't being prepped properly during assembly, resulting in what we're seeing here, because as far as I can tell, the SRT hoods, at least, are rusting on their exterior in the EXACT same location.

Re: Calling All WK2 SRTs With "corroded" Hoods

PS, mine's at the dealer now, and I'm waiting to hear how they intend to fix this... On one hand I hope with a new hood, on the other hand, God damn it, that paint job better be FLAWLESS.

When I get it back, I'll start spraying some 90-weight oil inside the hood to keep the corrosion away- I didn't buy a Lifetime Max Care Warranty because I plan on getting rid of the thing after one year of ownership.

Re: Calling All WK2 SRTs With "corroded" Hoods

Push comes to shove, I've already made peace with the idea of a new CF hood.

Re: Calling All WK2 SRTs With "corroded" Hoods

Maxcare wont cover anything with rust or corrosion unfortunately only mechanical/electrical and the standard jeep corrosion warranty only covers rust through not surface rust like this. so after the 3/36 you are at the mercy of jeep if they decide to cover it under good faith or not. having paint corrode off a hood after only 3 years and have them not cover it would be kind of a shit move but the way its starting to look there may be a fair number of people falling into that so maybe they will do some type of good faith campaign but guess we will see

Re: Calling All WK2 SRTs With "corroded" Hoods

I mean, obviously I know MaxCare doesn't take rust into account, but my point is if they go and try to fix the old hood and it corrodes again, it's not like I'm going to look at it like "well, by then it will be someone else's problem." No, it'll still be mine, and I'll be even more pissed-off than I am now about this.
