Re: Calling All WK2 SRTs With "corroded" Hoods

When I was called back to the deanery for more pictures requested by Chrysler, they were looking for corrosion at the seam underneath the lip. I have none there yet they still resorted to a replacement rather than a repair.

I hope they treat the rest of you the same way. @stcjpr damn right that paint job better be flawless!

I'm actually happy about my replacement because I had some other rock chips up there too!

Re: Calling All WK2 SRTs With "corroded" Hoods

My replacement hood has been approved... Except it's on backorder.

Clearly this isn't an isolated problem, but hopefully the new one is a superseded part number/design.

Re: Calling All WK2 SRTs With "corroded" Hoods

mine was approved for replacement and is scheduled for Tuesday, but I'd have to leave it for 2 days. Apparently they don't come painted and needs to be painted by the body shop ??

Well no, of course they don't come painted, every vehicle on the road is a slightly different shade from the next, even if they're the same paint code.

I'm not all that upset about the backorder, apparently it's because all of the old parts were pulled and a new design is pending release.

Which makes one wonder how long the hoods we're getting will last. Hopefully it's more in the prep than the hood itself.

It's in the prep. Aluminum is aluminum and aluminum is the issue.

...to be a neg Nell that is precisely why anyone with darker metallic paint had better be prepared for the results....it takes a very good and lucky painter to match the amount and angle of the flake from the factory mix and paint robot....

And even if they get the flake close it will never be the same as factory it will age and weather differently. Not as big a deal if you lease or turn cars over every two or three years but for the long term keepers its something i consider. Crashing a car and having to get it fixed is one thing stuff happens and you deal with it. But when you must deal with it as a result of poor initial quality that bugs me a bit more at such a young paint age.

Re: Calling All WK2 SRTs With "corroded" Hoods

well sum b*tch...looks like I "won" the lottery too. I looked real close today when washing the underside of the hood (hand no spray) and I have the under paint bubbles under front lip. One broke and the others are dentable so they are not solid paint and they are not drop shaped nor metal folds...it can only be water inside those bubbles. I have proof of that water intrusion too. The passenger corner is not closed with paint/sealant like the drivers corner is and that is a trapped low point when closed as I discovered when a few ounces of water poured out that corner when I lifted the hood. Not much gets my dander up but this is just incompentence in basic anti-corrosion design given the high use in wet, salty environments.

Can't imagine how bad this hood lip will look after another Cleveland winter.
