Going off of my confidence level with Chrysler, I'm going to assume that all of them are going to eventually have this issue. My Jeep garage kept and frankly I was sitting in a garage for almost 9 months while I was deployed so it's not a problem of it being outside or in the atmosphere. I think I am eventually going to just sell the new hood and get a carbon fiber one from Black Ops. I don't want to have to worry about this problem after the Chrysler dealership consider themselves no longer responsible for any paint issues in a couple years. For what it's worth my jeep has 26300 miles on it. As a disclaimer this reply was done using talk text. So please don't murder me for any typos.

So we probably will get the 5 year 100k miles corrosion warranty and after that we are on our own.

Re: Calling All WK2 SRTs With "corroded" Hoods

ARGH!! Got the new hood and found a drip. Went back and he gave a good polish. Was about to leave when I found a dust nub. They took it back and got rid of that....I drive home to wash it and I find another spec and a ding in my brand new hood and scratches.

I feel bad but It has to go back. I cannot look at this fricking ding every day. I can polish out the scratches but I just cannot look at this ding.

WTF my blistered hood looked better than this one.

These guys were super nice but I just cannot accept this hood the way it is.

Why me!!!???

Re: Calling All WK2 SRTs With "corroded" Hoods

I have noticed a few of these spots on the front edge of my hood and on the underside of the hood on my 2014 Aussie Blackhawk. So its not just SRTs.

It is very difficult to get a photo of the ding. I can get it by moving around and taking a video but on a black jeep and being in an area with curves, I cannot get a photo where you can really see it well. Trust me though it is there. My wife pointed it out after coming home yesterday too as well as the scratches.

Re: Calling All WK2 SRTs With "corroded" Hoods

It's all WK2s, primarily 2013-2015, that this is showing up on. If you look under your hood and see a urethane strip laminated over the edge of where your hood skin lip touches the hood core support, your hood is affected. 2011-2013.5 WK2 hoods didn't have this urethane, then they introduced it... It's almost like instead of sealing OUT moisture as intended, it's keeping it in, but the reality is, there's metal contamination sealed within, between the skin and the core.

So in the near future it may probably become an epidemic on 13-15 and jeep will be forced to acknowledge

Re: Calling All WK2 SRTs With "corroded" Hoods

Does water get in there from the hood vents?

there are vent holes on underside to drain it BUT they boffed getting drain points in lowest spots as when you lift your hood (at least mine) water not draining when closed will drain out the windshield end corners....somewheres early in this or other forum threads the cause was/is thought to be reactions between aluminum hood skin and metal superstructure? (could be way off on that)

Can someone post a pic of this urethane strip? Just bought a 2015 and trying to figure out whether I need to worry about this or not. I don't see anything that looks like a urethane strip. Just the point where the metal from the top of the hood is rolled over to the bottom. Not seeing any of the corrosion points that others are talking about.
