Re: Calling All WK2 SRTs With "corroded" Hoods

I just discovered my 2014 has a few spots. I'm not sure I want a replacement though bc I would not be happy if it didn't match 100%. I'm living on the if it ain't broke don't fix it theory. I'm trading this back in 4 yrs or so and I'm not going to concern myself with this quite yet.

Re: Calling All WK2 SRTs With "corroded" Hoods

Brought this up to my dealer when I came in for some stuff the other day. A new bubble has popped up in the last few months, and it has air under it...

Dealer documented it with pictures for now. I'm not sure either if I want to replace. I PLAN on keeping this vehicle awhile since I have a lifetime max care. The dealer kept warning me that it will probably not look the same - they can't match the factory "orange peel" basically... which a skilled painter could do if they really wanted to. Said it could be smooth as glass and look obviously different.

IMHO, your issue (since u have granite crystal) will be the amount and mix of color flake and the angle at which the painter sprays it vs the factory bot....I only have the orange peel effect to worry about with my brilliant, non-metallic white....still hesitant but going to get it documented and will likely get it done right at the buzzer so I can get as many chips negated as possible then....

Re: Calling All WK2 SRTs With "corroded" Hoods

Yes, documentation is all I'm shooting for at this point, it's just two bubbles on the bottom and I barely even notice them. I had no clue until this thread. If it rusts through or gets worse in the three years I plan on owning this then I'll make that decision later.

6 times the charm. I have literally received my Jeep 6 times so far and had to give it back to the dealer because this brand-new hood that they put on my Jeep has dings in it and I refuse to accept it that way. I am starting to get pretty pissed off about the whole situation because the hood that was on originally only had the corrosion issue. There was not a single thing wrong with the freaking Hood. What the hell am I supposed to do go away with a brand-new hood that looks worse than the hood I had on initially? If they try to give me back an imperfect Hood again my next step is to reach out to Chrysler and if they need to they will have to send me a new hood. Of course now they are on back order.

Im so sick of this crap.

I bet it's the soft aluminum from all the extra handling the panel got in getting to you plus the relatively inexperienced (with alum) body shops while they all adjust to the new weight reducing world order in car design....the best domestic aluminum dealer body work I have seen these days is at a Ford dealer or their go to body shop since they have so much alum in their new stuff (F truck etc...)...I don't think CDJR dealers are too accustomed with soft aluminum vs some others....Suburban Collision is quickly owning all the body work from dealers around here and it's things like increasing aluminum panel content that takes $10k ish or so investment plus some really good body finish guys ((the body artists) to pop out smoothly finished panels...that damn alum dents way too easily...the salt pellets around here dent it

Dang man it sucks you have to deal with this situation. It's just the type of situation I'm trying to elude if not necessary. I hope it works out for you.

Yes aluminum dents easily but.....the original hood is 3 years old and had not one single dent in it. So I expect the brand new hood to have not one single dent in it.

I think it sucks. The dealer/ body shop is roughly 30 min from my home. So that means at least 6 hours of my time has been wasted. I mean cmon! I do bodywork. I am not a pro. But I know that the point of a bodyshop is to fix dents. If I can see the dents easily in the sun then the tech should be able to. I mean I am simply at a loss as to what the hell they thought was going to happen.

The more they fail to fix the issue, the more I find.
So far there was 4 dings in wide open areas, two scratched areas in valleys, two drips and about 5 areas with pimples from dust getting in the clear. All is fixed but the dings remain. They keep wetsanding and buffing to try to remove the dings......uh....that shit aint gonna work. duh!

The worst part is that they might have to fill and respray so I get to look for dust, drips and dings all over again. WTF

my main point, the damage from handling (ie shipping)....agreed, not a valid reason for them not fixing the dents but a hood installed at the factory is transported on body panel rack dolly's and mostly handled by bots but a local body shop install WILL show up dented and need more work...just talking generalities

Re: Calling All WK2 SRTs With "corroded" Hoods

Here we go again. Total round trips to body shop is 7 now. This time they called a paintless dent removal guy in and wouldnt you know it, There is one that he could not get to. The body shop is about 30 min from my house.

After many excuses, including the excuse that they are having issues with the paint guy, I demanded a new hood. So of course, I will get to deal with this whole ordeal again once the new hood comes in.

So far I have at least 7 hours wrapped up in trying to get my hood replaced.

The sucky thing is that there is only one ding left but it is right in front of the driver side hood scoop by a couple inches and I just cannot ignore the weird reflection that comes with a ding.
