Calling All WK2 SRTs With "corroded" Hoods

Anyone else out there with a rust problem on their factory hood?

2014 SRT, 60k Illinois miles, and kept clean and dry all winter... Urethane strip on the leading edge of the hood bubbling up all over, and now blisters coming through the paint surface on top. Dielectric reaction from aluminum on aluminum skin to core, improperly isolated on assembly. BS.

And no, these didn't start as stone chips...

Re: Calling All WK2 SRTs With Rusty Hoods

Mines fine, but I've only got 2,300 sunny day miles on mine. That's exactly why I didn't want to risk buying an all aluminum f-150.

Re: Calling All WK2 SRTs With Rusty Hoods

You have customer #2. Just checked my hood, 2014 with 20,000 miles and it's corroding & bubbling. Nasty looking underside.

Let's hope they figured out the solution on the newer hoods.

Re: Calling All WK2 SRTs With Rusty Hoods

I believe Ford had similar issues with the aluminum hoods on the 2009ish F-150's. I have a 15 srt, and thankfully haven't noticed any issues.

Re: Calling All WK2 SRTs With Rusty Hoods

I have this as well. 2014 model built October 2013...
My painter said he has seen this before on aluminum hoods (described it as corrosion). Unfortunately a complete fix will be stripping, acid prime, then painting the bad areas. Then the entire hood would need to be re-clearcoated.

I'm out of warranty so this should be a fun fix...

Ugh. The things to look forward too. Can anyone tell if this corrosion started with a stone chip? I may spring for the clear bra after seeing so many having issues.

It is definitely not from a stone chip so you will not prevent it with a clear bra.

Re: Calling All WK2 SRTs With Rusty Hoods

Thanks. I guess I'll set the money aside for a repaint someday. I'm guess warranty won't cover it because I is not rusted through.
