Can I tow my RV?

My 29 foot RV/trailer weighs 7480lb empty and I currently tow it with my old van. I would like to get a 2014 beast but I do not know if I would be safe to tow it. I could probably reduce some weight off the RV by removing a few items from it that are broken or not really needed. (Very old RV)

Would I be safe to tow this thing or would the heavy trailer man handle the jeep?

Re: Can I tow my RV?

I think you would be pushing its limits.

Obviously the engine has enough power to pull it and the brakes have enough juice to stop it but I think the wheelbase and suspension make it iffy. I have towed a trailer that heavy and it was fine for short distances but I wouldn't want to drive 400 miles with it back there. The longer the wheelbase is on a tow vehicle the better it tows stuff and the Jeep just isn't that big.

But if you are only going 50 miles to go camping somewhere it will be just fine. If you are driving to Colorado to camp in the mountains I wouldn't do it with the SRT

Re: Can I tow my RV?

^^^agree 100% with above post. I pull my boat and trailer setup which is a little over 5000lbs and the Jeep handles in perfectly. It's rated at 7200lbs towing capacity and theres no doubt you could pull more.. But keep in mind safety and also components such as the trans..brakes..etc will heat up and fail prematurely when pushed last their limits.

Hey Mikes14srt,
I dont mean to hijack this post but how does your srt springs hold up to the tongue weight? These dont have the load leveling springs...what boat and approx tongue weight are you running? Thanks man

My boat is a 2013 Yamaha AR240. It's a 24ft jet boat and with the trailer and gear its probably in the 5000-5400lb range depending on how much gas is in it...etc. The jeep squats slightly with the tongue weight of the trailer but it doesn't really effect the ride. It's actually amazing how straight it pulls the combo too. I used to pull it with my wife's MDX which was under rated and the trailer would sway all over the place at higher speeds. With the Jeep I do 80mph on the highway keeping with traffic and it stays straight as an arrow.

Re: Can I tow my RV?

lol...I have a 2014 Yamaha 212x...love these boats. Had a 2012 ar190 and it was great but too small and not enough power. This is exactly what I needed to know. Glad it works well, I was a little concerned it would be a little much for the srt suspension and especially if I lowered it a little but your boat is a little heavier than mine so I wouldnt have any issues. Thanks!
