CarPlay?

Any plans for Jeepy to partner with Apple to get CarPlay going on screen? I doubt they will but it would be nice. There is so much untapped potential on these new radios. ViaMobile is a fkn joke too. I feel like I have to fool around way more with Via Mobile if I want to play Pandora from my iPhone rather than just using bluetooth and using the iphone and not fooling with the nav screen.

Re: CarPlay?

Will our 2014's be upgradeable by FW updates you think? who is in charge of the updates for our radios? There should be a lot more customizable features and it sickens me that we cant suggest tweaks! Would be great if someone could actually take some requests for tweaks!

I highly doubt it -- they want you to have to buy the new model!

According to the fact, that the 'new' Ferrari California T is supporting it with its Navigation (it's the older Uconnect Generation), it shouldn't be a big thing to bring it out on the new Uconnect 8.4 too!!!

I'm absolutlely happy with my Gr. Cherokee Summit and the Uconnect is working fine.
But I can't understand, why in the hell they bring out one update after another here in Europe but I can't see only ONE MORE THING.
No Apps (incl. Spotify), no customized POIs and so on. Now Apple brings out Carplay and guess what... Chysler and Jeep is not one of the leading Partners!!!

Disappointing...

Re: CarPlay?

Mercedes have mentioned about updating older cars to have it, there should be no technical reason that it can’t be done with existing Uconnect units, just a matter if Chrysler consider it worthwhile to allocate resources (expense).

Re: CarPlay?

Think Ferrari, Mercedes and Volvo might be part of the 'launch' PR part. Toyota had to retract a mention of it coming to their 2015 models yesterday.

Chrysler's PR is here (from allpar):
News: Chrysler to get Apple CarPlay or not?

Chrysler Group has a strong relationship with Apple. Our companies are focused on iPhone and iPod compatibility testing with Chrysler Group’s current Uconnect Systems, and we continue to discuss and explore technologies that can further enhance the driving experience and keep drivers focused on the road.

Really? I do it all the time. Just press the home button for a second and Siri does the job!

Yea Siri will do it but the Uconnect wont. It never has done voice text with the iPhone (but will with most androids)

Re: CarPlay?

I'm an Iphone user as are most of my family. One of the obvious issues that I see here is QNX. It's a Blackberry product and that could be an obstacle. I'm no raving fan boy of either product, meaning Apple or Blackberry. I just want a decent user experience. I need a smartphone for business. Apple works best for my needs. It will be interesting to see if Chrysler pushes the development of Carplay integration or if they will skirt the issue. Who is going to get top bill here Apple or RIM. My guess is RIM.

My understanding was UConnect already ran on a QNX operating system in the Jeep and that the currently deployed Merc & Ferrari systems also run QNX? It would be mostly software but there may very well be hardware requirements in memory or communications interface that current systems don't provide.

The data stream out of the iPhone lightning port is also encrypted and the Made For iPhone (MFI) licensing program gives vendors the ability to decrypt that, for a fee. I'm unsure if that's software or again requires a hardware chip.

Looks like this may be a feature available on our next Jeep
