Chipped Black Chrome

I'm getting ready to put black chrome spider monkeys on for the winter, and have some chips in the finish. Anyone have any recommendations on how to deal with that. Any black chrome touch up paint, or anything of a sort?

Re: Chipped Black Chrome

No way I'd be running decent wheels in the winter if I had another option.

Re: Chipped Black Chrome

so far no one has offered any suggestions other than what not to do. He's already done it so lets help fix it.

Try spraying onto cardboard and using a paint brush to touch up.

Dupli-Color/Black/clear Shadow chrome black-out coating kit (SHD1000) | Paint - Spray Can and Touch Up | AutoZone.com

Most seem to be two stage. apply base touch up then top. Some guys use testors model paint with the silver chrome and add dark gray until they get the desired color. Some fooling around to get it right but pretty inexpensive.

Re: Chipped Black Chrome

Best thing to do is call a rim repair. I'll pm you a rim repair place. I don't know if they are in your city or not.

I would recommend riding some steelies for the winter with winter tires.

I just went through this myself. I went to Alloy Wheel Repair Specialists, who have worked on my WK1 SRT wheels. Unfortunately, they said there is no way to repair it properly unless you strip it down and refinish. The shop on the west coast that can handle it for them said it would $350 per wheel since they will strip it, smooth the gouges, and rechrome.

They said there is a high chance they will chip more off while trying to smooth out the scratches. That being said, I bought the duplicolor black chrome kit and will be trying to sand and blend the gouge marks.

I'm mostly looking to smooth and blend so won't notice until a couple feet away.

Re: Chipped Black Chrome

What ^ he said. No way to truly repair it. Has to be rechromed.
