Agreed...at age 40 he should have known better.

There was a kid in my neighborhood who smacked his Challenger into a curb while negotiating a very sharp curve and did tons of damage. He is lucky he didn't hit one of the numerous residents or their children who are usually out riding bikes, walking, etc. We always had issues with him speeding on our street, so this took care of him for the time being. Hopefully his parents fix it, sell it and put him in something slower...

they should really throw the book at people that do things like that in neighborhoods, you have to be able to think for little kids that don't know enough on streets like that. be nice if the insurance company decided not to pay for a new toy for that 40 year old but probably not likely.

It was tongue in cheek given the sub-title of the article...

Man Showing Off New Car Flips It, Charged with Reckless Driving
He wanted to show how well it handled corners at high speed and ended up upside down.

I believe Mr. Pederson will also be granted with a totaled vehicle......in which his insurance company may not cover due to the charges.

Agree with the rest, guy was a fool... I am not afraid to push the limits (within reason) on the highway and even on the way home on major roads (mainly because it seems no one wants to go to work or go home) as they all go under the speed limit. But once I turn into the sub - it is 15MPH.

I suspect the moron had it in track mode and had no clue what he was in for...

Im glad he wrecked it in the way he did, it could have been a lot worse. He could have been doing 160 on the freeway and smacked into someone causing multiple fatalities. The most important thing is no one was seriously injured. Cars can be fixed or replaced, people can't.

Wow that is crazy! You can tell by the damage he was going wayyyyy too fast. What do you think totaled or not? Can your insurance company really deny the claim because you were speeding or driving reckless or whatever?

That is what I was wondering, could they deny it? my guess is no because regardless how stupid it was the crash was not intentional. If the vehicle were intentionally and purposefully crashed maybe they could deny it. I don't really know just theorizing

Man I really can't even begin to fathom how it must feel to take a life because of how stupid I was at the time if I was clowning around especially if I was drinking and driving , man you have to live with that till the day you die ...

Think about how bad even somebody like Tony Stuart feels....

I run high mileage for a living. Feeling sorry for this guy. Could be just stupid driving but no doubt he didn't plan on this. Fuel spills to squirrels could be on every turn we all make.

A 99 vette I had in 2000 nearly ditched me on a high spot at the beginning of a sharp turn on a 55mph highway years ago.

Any stiff suspension vehicle will leave the ground loosing all traction for a moment on uneven surfaces.

The turn that scares the @#$% out of me in that vette years ago I had driven many times at higher speed in a soft riding 94 ZJ while sipping on coffee. Had no idea the vette would leave the ground at a lower speed I normally went around the turn in the jeep.

Just a FYI... Stiff is for the track, not the ever changing road.

I was raised on a dirt bike and have lost nearly all my friends I rode bikes with due to their street bikes they began riding later in life....which also leave the ground with ever so slight variance in hight of the pavement.

Oh, he definitely sideswiped something along the way of losing control. But those marks down the side of the vehicle are too high to have caused the vehicle to roll, much less tear out all the rear underpinnings like that.

To me, he was sliding sideways when he hit something low, like a curb. And he was still moving at a pretty good clip when he hit whatever he hit. That takes a lot of force to do the kind of damage shown in that picture.

I'm glad no innocent bystanders were hurt... but man, what a waste of a fine vehicle.

While I do not condone driving like a tool in suburban streets, that damage could easily have been cause at a crash of under 35mph. Hit a kerb side on at even low speed will cause that type of damage and roll a car over.

what freaking idiot, I mean I like to go fast and corner hard too but I never do it in a neighborhood. I mean seriously, that's what a race track is for and many of road courses in the country do track day events so you could bring your ride on the track.

I took my truck to a track event/tuition in July, and followed up with autocross 2 weeks ago.

On the basis of these 2 days driving my truck fast in controlled environments, it takes a LOT of speed to get our trucks to slide. They hold curves at unnatural speeds for their weight, and remain very controllable IMHO.

So to hit a curb sideways you have to drive stupid fast or just very fast and do something wrong, or maybe the guy got surprised by another car in his trajectory and had to improvise...

Pushing your truck to the limit on the first day is never a good idea. In a residential area it borders on Darwin Award-worthy...

By the way, is it the rear spring in the gutter...?
