Oh, he definitely sideswiped something along the way of losing control. But those marks down the side of the vehicle are too high to have caused the vehicle to roll, much less tear out all the rear underpinnings like that.

To me, he was sliding sideways when he hit something low, like a curb. And he was still moving at a pretty good clip when he hit whatever he hit. That takes a lot of force to do the kind of damage shown in that picture.

I'm glad no innocent bystanders were hurt... but man, what a waste of a fine vehicle.

well that's good to hear, sorry I just don't have any sympathy for him doing this in a neighborhood like that. if he wants to destroy his jeep on some dark back road away from everyone else, then whatever floats his boat. but the potential to kill or injure other people is pretty high where he decided to do his little rip the wheels off show.

Yep... I don't think he'll find much sympathy from anyone. This will cost him dearly, and in more ways than one.

Re: Cornering apparently isn't THAT good...

I took my truck to a track event/tuition in July, and followed up with autocross 2 weeks ago.

On the basis of these 2 days driving my truck fast in controlled environments, it takes a LOT of speed to get our trucks to slide. They hold curves at unnatural speeds for their weight, and remain very controllable IMHO.

So to hit a curb sideways you have to drive stupid fast or just very fast and do something wrong, or maybe the guy got surprised by another car in his trajectory and had to improvise...

Pushing your truck to the limit on the first day is never a good idea. In a residential area it borders on Darwin Award-worthy...

By the way, is it the rear spring in the gutter...?
