Re: Done with the SRT - my story

Sorry to read about this. Is anyone boosting a 6.4 with a stock bottom end reliably? Could it be that starting with an almost 11:1 ratio and adding boost on pump gas isn't feasible?

While we don't know what happened with this one specifically, we have 7 other trucks running around with this setup, and about 250 6.4 cars we have done with blowers. This is the first one to have an issue.

Re: Done with the SRT - my story

I'm waiting on a full autopsy on this one. Something as simple as a lose connection on the #1 injector could have melted the piston.

I will say....if I do boost, I'm building a new bottom end built for a boosted plant.

The cylinder one code he was mentioning in the OP would be something to look at. When a piston starts to come apart it will crush a plug and cause a mis fire code. Im curious if this code ever went away before he lost the short block..

If a piston starts to come apart and the operator doesn't know it will do is get worse. And if a large enough piece comes of it most certainly become catastrophic.

Now IM sure you know all this Im more speaking out loud to the folk's reading this thread.

OP IM sorry to read this. It sucks when things go south the wind gets sucked out of ones sails. Best of luck with the Raptor Heard they were a lot of fun...

On a side note whenever we 'car folks' modify a vehicle there is always a chance of crap hotting the fan. However these Jeeps can certainly be boosted within reason with stock slugs. As others have mentioned if one wants to turn the wick up,at the very least a set of forged slugs should be installed..

Re: Done with the SRT - my story

Commendable for Livernois to chime in here and let us know they wanted to help.

Lankness sacrificed his motor in the pursuit of boosted power. Hopefully this will allow others to consider strongly the need for a better bottom end.

Sorry to see that happen, a friend of mine has a raptor and i think you will like it alot. Along those lines i glanced at the car and driver that just came out and there was an article on the 2017 raptor that will have a v6 ecoboost with 500 hp and 500 ft/torque, some nice numbers on a v6

The misfire codes were gone. But that was due to updating the tune.

Yes, it was a risk. I knew that going in And I lost the gamble. Shit happens when you do things to add 40+% more power.

I may move to the '17 when I can order one. Depends on the price and my 'trade.' 3-400lbs lighter. Ecoboost with 450 is what I've heard though...500 would be a bit high on the expectations.

Re: Done with the SRT - my story

Sweet jesus!

Thank you for the post this has made my mind up.

I've heard the pistons are the weakest link rods can handle 12 psi crank 14 psi but pistons misewell be glass.

not doing this until i have a forged block and internals. add more to the demon wish list

Just means It' can handle moar power!

sorry for your loss!

I thought 500/500 seemed like some high numbers off a v6 also but thats what they were saying and 15mpg city 21 hwy with cost at $50,000-53,000. Ill take a closer look at the article when i get back in town, just looked at the specs quickly.

Livernois stated that the codes were due to the winter fuel blends. The codes were thrown on the original tune. Clear the codes, update the tune to what they provided, no more codes.

Hell, even with the motor cratered there isn't a code thrown. No SES lights, no DTCs.

Ecoboost now doesn't get that on the regular 2wd F150. MSRP on mine was 59610...not a chance it will drop.
