I think they are basically identical as the 8HP70 with the 8HP90 having upgraded internals. Not sure if the stock computer would drive it though. I'm sure someone will figure it out soon enough now that the beefier ones are showing up in the hellcats.

I think it would be a matter of getting one fitted with the properly strengthened transfer case.

Maybe I'm oversimplifying things just a bit....sure would be fun to figure it out though.

Re: Done with the SRT - my story

Any updates to this? Just spoke to Livernoise on Fri about the problem with the '15s ECU. Seems the 15 ECU is one and done so it's all got to be done at once.

Re: Done with the SRT - my story

The Jeep is still at Livernois and is back together. They've been fighting issues with the AWD dyno, so it hasn't gone on the rollers for numbers yet. They have a track day scheduled for this Thursday and the Jeep will be going there to validate and finalize everything. And, then, hopefully it will be heading back to me shortly thereafter...

Re: Done with the SRT - my story

So they're been working on this for 7+ months now?

Thanks for the update Kevin. Please keep me posted. I'm very interested to hear all about it once all the upgrade, reinforcement and rebuild has been completed.

I've got too much money in my '15 already and don't drive enough to trade in again for the trackhawk. Also not sure I can justify throwing down $100K+ once the dealers add all the markups.

Re: Done with the SRT - my story

Yea, something like that. It's been there since the end of February...

New motor is a fully built 392. Custom forged pistons/rods. Lower compression (closer to the 6.1's factory comp). Valve train upgraded with solid stemmed valves, better springs and Livernois' rocker bar stabilization kit. The boost will be a bit higher but output will be similar to before (due to the lower compression). I'll leave it as is for now, but may turn it up in the future as the option is there. Transmission becomes more of a question at that point though...

She's been together for awhile, but I agreed to leave her up there for their track day. I want them to be sure everything is solid before she comes back. Hopefully that return trip will be in the near future.

Re: Done with the SRT - my story

I feel really bad for ya, more for the Jeep though.

I had a similar issue on a brand new Caddy I supercharged years ago. Blew the engine due to a bad tune and lost a LOT of money.

Never again will I SC a car unless it come from the factory like that. Especially not on a $70K Jeep. I think the SRT is fast enough without making ridiculous mods like that. If you must SC it, make sure you have the bank roll to fix it when something blows.

Re: Done with the SRT - my story

Yea, this wasn't the tune. Hollow-stemmed valve flexed, stuck and hit, leading to total catastrophic failure. It sucks and it is expensive for sure.

Hindsight, I would have just built the motor from the get go to go along with the s/c. I still would have increased the power at the time, because although it was quick stock, it wasn't all that I wanted.

I get that others are going the FI route and leaving everything else, I say they are on borrowed time though. Nothing would have saved this motor with the failure that happened. Hell, it might have done the same thing if it was stock.

Now, if it was stock today, I wouldn't touch it since the Trackhawk is confirmed. I'd just wait. But, I may end up with a Trackhawk as well.

In other news, Livernois' AWD dyno is fixed and my Jeep was on the rollers earlier this morning. They got some base data from the tune and are now tweaking on it looking for more power.

Re: Done with the SRT - my story

I agree with ya. Live and learn I guess. The engine may have failed regardless of a SC or not. I may keep my14 unless I can get a good deal on the trackhawk!

Hope you get that badboy going again sir!

Re: Done with the SRT - my story

I'm hoping it gets on a truck this week to come back. It ran at the track again last Thursday and it appears that everything is running smooth aside from some driveability quirk that popped up with the Fastman TB. That should be an easy enough fix...
