Driver's Side Window Cracked. Learned something new.

My wife was cruising down the road in the SRT doing around 60mph when a rock hit her driver side window cracking it. From what I can tell the rock hit the mirror and deflected into the window. The window didn't shatter, it just cracked which I thought to be odd.

During the replacement, the tech told me it was a double sheet of glass with a laminate between. This explains why it didn't just explode like a lot of other side windows. He claimed this type of window is used for sound deadening.

He also said some vehicles will auto roll down the windows in a submersion because these types windows can not be kicked out.

Does anyone know if the Jeep will do this?

Only the front side windows are double glass, the back are single.

Re: Driver's Side Window Cracked. Learned something new.

i doubt they auto roll down. I think that's something they would advertise.

But yes the two front windows are Laminated like windshield glass.

This in side crashes no longer sends glass into your face.

it's for sound deadening.

Re: Driver's Side Window Cracked. Learned something new.

Thank you for the info on the front and rear windows. I put a chip in my driver's side passenger window...the front tires are so wide and kick up anything under the tire, especially when nabbing the throttle! It is smack dab in the middle of the window. I was shocked; to me that is a design flaw. BUT I will deal as I am not adding any form of front flap HAHA

All JGC's have them from 2011 on wards, not just SRTs

And yes, they can be kicked out. Possibly not by a small child or weakened small female, but they can be kicked out. You can also pull them out if you can get it down an inch or so.

Not to sure if they would advertise the submersion. I know my evo went down automatically during sandy. Made the inside look marvelous!

I was a little annoyed the SRT didn't get the acoustic windshield the Summit has...then I realized that might be to allow engine noise to penetrate the cabin more effectively as part of the SRT sound.

The dealer recently replaced my windshield because of a rock greeting the top of the glass...crack started around 2" then due to heat/driving over the next couple days went to over 18"! Is there a way to check and see if my replacement is the acoustic version or not? I would imagine they replaced it with the non-acoustic since that is what came originally...
