Driver's Side Window Cracked. Learned something new.

My wife was cruising down the road in the SRT doing around 60mph when a rock hit her driver side window cracking it. From what I can tell the rock hit the mirror and deflected into the window. The window didn't shatter, it just cracked which I thought to be odd.

During the replacement, the tech told me it was a double sheet of glass with a laminate between. This explains why it didn't just explode like a lot of other side windows. He claimed this type of window is used for sound deadening.

He also said some vehicles will auto roll down the windows in a submersion because these types windows can not be kicked out.

Does anyone know if the Jeep will do this?

Only the front side windows are double glass, the back are single.

i doubt they auto roll down. I think that's something they would advertise.

But yes the two front windows are Laminated like windshield glass.

This in side crashes no longer sends glass into your face.

it's for sound deadening.

Thank you for the info on the front and rear windows. I put a chip in my driver's side passenger window...the front tires are so wide and kick up anything under the tire, especially when nabbing the throttle! It is smack dab in the middle of the window. I was shocked; to me that is a design flaw. BUT I will deal as I am not adding any form of front flap HAHA

yup you can see if you look at the top edge of the glass...

Roll your front and rear passenger window down a few inches. Look at the top of the glass. You will see the front is about 2x thicker and will have a thin piece of plastic laminate between the two. You can also compare the the left against the right window.

He's asking about the windshield.

Roll the front down just a miniscule crack while driving and you can really tell what an effective job that acoustic glass does. I believe the SRT's distant German cousin, the AMG ML63 has that type of glass everywhere. $131k for a similarly equipped one of those...heated steering wheel? That'll be $500. Oh, you like that flat bottomed steering wheel? Another $1100 please, LOL!
