While we're on this subject. The 14 SRT that I have was leased by the first owner and I can tell he didn't take care of the outside of the car, especially wheels\calipers. I attached some pictures of them chipping and apparently clear coat is coming off. I thought they were power coated at first due to that they are from Brembo, but it looks like they were just painted. This is only for the front 2 calipers, the rear look like new.

Would any of you say they are still under Factory warranty and dealer should take a look at them or get them replaced? I really don't want them just paint clear coat on them, I can do that myself with deep cleaning and spray paint with high temp clear coat, but why do that if maybe it's still covered.

Any ideas?
yes, they are painted and cleared...painted is better than powder for heat transfer, powder keeps them hotter (bad)...

yes, the clear peeling would be covered under the 3/36 btb warranty...don't let a dealer fool sing the "brakes" are only covered for 12mo/12k tune..this is a paint/finish issue which is covered....the challenge is that they may pick the situation apart (because they will get picked apart by FCA when submitting the digital pics for approval) or they may be very easy with it...plan for the former...the ways it would not be covered are related to how it started...if you have a paint dent or chip that is at the edge of the peel near what appears to be it's start or if they claim/prove they were overheated but that is a toughie for them....then you might be toast on warranty coverage...a real Mr. No dealer might sing the "you never cared for the wheels and the acidic brake dust caused this" tune and fight you...net, net, it's worth putting it on your pre-36k appt list....good luck

Thanks for the advice.
You would think that heavy braking and calipers getting hot should be a normal for SRT model. Going to the track and ripping some laps with it and getting calipers hot, it should handle it. Shitty Brembo design!?

Yeah, between me and you, first owner didn't care for shit about it.

no, great design as there is not a high volume of this reported on the forums just mentioning the potential warranty claim pushback...they are great brakes for street and occasional track use but the solid disc and pad compound will produce some real high heat that on a very hot track day and very heavy braking offers the chance, again the rock chips are the likely claim denial, if any...imho, if no rock chip can be found as cause it is likely lack of care because the metal in the pads chemically react with everything it touches if not removed regularly...just think of tiny angular metal shards in a dust cloud being thrown at high speed at your caliper clear...it embeds, cuts and reacts...that's why the corners in the rims corrode out from brake dust since that is where it cakes...brake dust is a very bad thing for all surfaces...spider monkeys are the absolute worst rim to keep clean...the only good thing about brake dust is it's a badge of "high performance" honor.

Yeah, I agree. I should've been little bit more clearer on the design part. Overall excellent brakes.

K, here's the delio....

Zeigler, Genuine Mopar Vehicle Protection Warranty - Save $$ Today, will no longer write an MVP plan for anyone who comes to them after cancelling an MVP plan written by another dealer. The system shows all the past activity on the VIN so there is no escape on this with Zeigler. There has apparently been a lot of dealer (the high cost selling ones) blowback against those do this (Zeigler, others). The good news is that while Zeigler is not an option for a cancel/re-buy cheaper customer the others likely still are.

I just confirmed that Chrysler Extended Warranty | Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep extended maintenance plans has no policy against it they just don't actively seek out that business. If a customer calls on their own we will transact. They will also handle the cancel/refund/rebuy process start to finish.

The manager (a really nice southern gentleman) there also confirmed that due to your unique circumstance (actually coded CPO now) he can write the CPO extended service plan because he has no choice as the system will only allow that given it is coded a CPO. This means you would avoid the $150 surcharge for being over 12k and it will lower your cost (below $2,165 for non-CPO) even more he just can't say until he gets your VIN last 8. I guess, the reason only the certifying CPO dealer can write the plans is because dealers don't code in the system as a CPO until the day of sale since CPO comes with a 3mo/3k MaxCare that activates day of sale. So while it is not true that ONLY the certifying dealer can sell an extended CPO MVP plan it is true effectively given the above.

I am sending you a PM with his direct cell, he stands ready to make this the easiest $1k+ in your pocket ever.

Re: Extra Warranty. Is it worth it?

How about this scenario:

You have moved overseas (Austria) with your 2014 Jeep SRT (US Spec), and after a bit of back and forth with Jeep International, they have agreed to honor the factory warranty of 3/36,000.

While posted overseas, you realize that your factory warranty will expire come March of 2017, and that the "Performance First" extended warranty you bought on the day of Jeep SRT delivery is basically worthless.

How would one go about getting MaxCare, and would it even be honored while you are in Austria?

That's my situation. Kinda feel like I am gonna be out of pocket if anything pops up after warranty expiration...

Mike

Good question for the Jeep dealer in Austria. My guess would be, where ever the car goes, everything goes with it, as long as there's Jeep dealer in that country.

the fly in the ointment appears when you actually register the vehicle in it's ne habitat....CAN market CAN registered vehicle can get warranty service anywhere in US UNTIL it gets registered in US...warranty cancelled. I don't think they left a curing time clause for honest relos but not totally sure....this was just an example of the many questions to confirm...
