Comparing a $100K vehicle to a $60K vehicle is just silly.....not to boot you are comparing used.....

Yeah, someone is dreaming of getting out of being upside down in that one. A 2010 with low miles should be trading in the mid 30's. My intentions were not directed at comparing a new RR or X5M. I understand the high cost of the Rover and the X5M, fortunately these vehicles drop in value a good bit over the first two years. I realize they would be used, but 10-15k in miles on one is really not a lot and certainly is no big deal if you can pick up the extended warranty with a CPO. At the end of the day your rig is two years older than the Jeep, but has over twice the warranty, its also faster than the Jeep (if you get the X5M) and quite honestly you would have spent a nice load on a BMW or a RR and not a Jeep!

Im not trying to be a downer here guys as Im am a big Jeep fan and would be thrilled to have the complete package in one. I just cant help but be dissapointed here, maybe my age is catching up with me comparing it to 1-2 year old competitors. I dont mind a stiff ride, I dont mind not having some of the luxuries that the Euro models offer, but for damn near 70K after state taxes this thing should compete with any Euro SUV out there period. Maybe an addtional 6-8k for the blower will get it there, maybe not. I have to give Kudo's to Jeep for keeping the GC SRT8 around, and they did a really good job revamping it in many of the areas. We all know the are compromises with everything and maybe the following year will include improvements in areas deeming the large sticker price.

Re: First SRT8 posted on eBay!

But it stil gets back to you gen1 owners JUST caring about speed or 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. Are you gonna be racing x5m and rr's everyday? And for what its worth...the RR SCed are pieces of shit....I know of 3 people with them and they stay in the garage for work...which is 3 hours away to boot. One lady...I coached her son in baseball this springa nd fall and the RR was gone the entire time. She got it back last weekeend before our fall party.....it wouldnt start at the party! LOL. I cant comment on the X5m.

This Jeep is leaps and bounds over the gen1 SRT...and thats a fact. Its been discussed by automotive people, the press etc.

Re: First SRT8 posted on eBay!

I'm not really sure you can even compare it to the WK1, because like Scott mentioned, the interior is a whole new vehicle.

Re: First SRT8 posted on eBay!

Hammerhead really needs to drive a 2011+ Grand Cherokee. The Laredo's interior, fit, finsih and quality of materials is better than the gen1 srt, overland etc.

Totally subjective. I actually prefer the design of the WK1 vs the new "looks like every other SUV" styling.

The only thing that rattles in my WK1 is the granddaughter's car seat.

2004 technology.....etc etc.
Which equates to the WK2 being "2009" technology. Not to mention the 2007 nav radio in the WK2

I have to agree with you on the RR's issues. They certainly dont have the best track record although they're getting better. The BMW's seem to have a better record, but they will have issue here or there just like the rest out there.
I guess Im just trying to justify the cost of this new Jeep, which is showing to be difficult with all the alternatives out there. I have an old Armada that I use for pulling the boat, trailers, etc. Its just hard to see paying that much for a Cherokee that cant pull half as much and isnt really that fast in the grand scheme of things. I know its very cool and you're not going to see them on every corner, but for the same money there are a lot of alternatives in my situation to just satisfy the need for speed now and again. I dont have to buy another SUV which is not the situation for most out there. I just cant see getting rid of my old one and dropping that amount on it. Maybe I should just consider a car instead.

I listed some pre-owned vehicles below to somewhat put things into perspective.
I know there is no direct comparison between these and the GC SRT8, BUT this lets you know what level of spending is going on with this new Jeep.

I just cant get my hands around spending this amount of dough on a Jeep as much as I would like to.

Re: First SRT8 posted on eBay!

not to be an ass...but I cant even comprehend comparing it with anything other than a hi po SUV. All of those vehicles you listed have nothing to do with an SUV. They do nothing that an SUV can do. Can i put my family in ANY of those? Can any of them be driven in ANY weather? Can I haul my 75 pound lab, baseball equipment, chairs and coolers? Also....if you just want high hp an speed...I can find you a coupe or 2+2 for much cheaper than ANY of those. I dont get your point what so ever!

I understand what you are saying Scott and appreciate your feedback. I know my examples were not the best considering most people need an SUV, I know I could not live without mine. I think in my situation and maybe a few others (that already own a full sized SUV or truck), a performance car would make more sense with the amount of money the new GC is listed at.

Just for the record, I think the new GC is the coolest thing out, but at the end of the day you have a Jeep that costs more than 99.99% of the population would even believe. Maybe my tune will change when one shows up here and I can see it in person and actually experience it. Even better, maybe a few simple mods will put the performance closer to the Euro market, and Im betting it will. All in all, Im just stung over the pricing. My rant is over guys, thanks for hearing me out.

Any selling pitches or angles would be appreciated at this point

I agree with this point and does make an interesting choice whether new JGC SRT8 or CPO X5M (perhaps even a Cayenne). I wouldn't opt for the RR due to reliability concerns. Search AutoTrader and there are several available with low mileage and asking price south of $70k.

I can understand the position of not wanting to buy a used vehicle but the biggest part of the depreciation is over. It's a better financial decision (relative to a major purchase). In addition BMW and Porsche will provide updated versions of the technology compared to Jeep.

I enjoy my current Overland but I do miss some of the features found on the premium models. I will be looking in 2-3 years for a replacement and will evaluate the choices that fit my criteria.

Ha, that is my buddy Bernie Katz, he used to have his shop here and moved there to continue selling Vipers.

Definitely a great guy but always is asking too much for cars--not that it is him but the dealer itself.

Re: First SRT8 posted on eBay!

This forum should be called " Bitch Bitch Bitch "
I have been waiting for this new SRT8 for so long and it is much nicer then then previous model . My SRT8 has 625 lbs of torque and 426 and it screams but drives hard and the new one will be much more of a true driver. Anyone who wants more HP can add S/C`er or plenty of other upgrades which is 1/2 the fun.
Bitching about a dealer who gets 5k over is just crazy..If they can get it, God bless them.
I would pay 5k over in a heartbeat, especially if I can pick one up now and have before everyone else. Don`t most new body style desirable cars get more $$$?
I have X5M with Shnitzer turbos and 700HP and it will never feel like my Jeep or any America muscle car but is a nice driver and a sleeper. It won`t lay rubber but that is not what is meant for. I sold the RR after 60 days as they depreciate quickly but was a nice truck as well.
Everyone should stop bitching over the pricing since nobody really cares and Jeep isnt going to lower price because of all the complaining. Dealers wiill sell everyone they get and customers will either pay or can go elsewhere.
The only valid bitch in this forum is late delivery but would you prefer they just deliver when they are not 100%.
I never comment on these pages but it is ridiculous reading all bitching. It would be much nicer to talk about who will have the 1st S/C`er for them and exhausts as well as other upgrades vs hearing about the freaklng price.
I`d bet that most of the bitchers wouldnt even buy truck if it was 10% cheaper as they would rather complain. I cant wait to get mine and only wish is that it will be done ASAP and my dealer will call and say come and get it.
