Re: Forged motor?

Actually the Challenger guys are the ones taking the beating experimenting. I have asked my guys so many questions, they understand and really enjoy talking about the modifications. I have also gleaned as much information I could find from the internet and friends of mine who are into racing. And if I get confused, I ask more questions. LOL. If you don't do an engine build and just do the bolt on systems, at least get a real fuel pump and not use a BAP(boost a pump). There is still a risk of something going wrong with any modification you make of things failing. But, using the proper parts and setup make thing a little less riskier.

Re: Forged motor?

There still seems to be a bit of miscommunication when it comes to the 6.4L... one twin turbo company tells me I need a forged 6.4L from Arrington ($10k total), while another twin turbo company tells me I can swap pistons/rods and the factory is block is good for 1000hp ($6k total)...

Both companies come highly respected in the Gen3 Hemi world, one is more experienced with twin turbo builds while the other is an experienced motor shop who has done some twin turbo builds but not as many as the other company.

I've been told the same thing. ..and add one that says leave it stock and just boost 6-7 psi and save 10k for now. My hold up for the moment is the 8 speed tranny. Doing some research now and talking to some contacts.

Re: Forged motor?

I thought I heard rumor that SHR was capable of upgrading the 8spd? But, I have not seen one built by them yet.

As far as forging goes. I figure if you're doing a twin turbo setup you are going to be around 800hp minimum. So you're going to need to forge the pistons, push rods, and connecting rods, and lower the compression. To optimize the boost you're also going to want a custom cam. To me you're spending a lot of money to get to this point so why cheap out on a partial engine build. Plus, the engine is already going to be torn apart. Then you get into things like windage trays, upgraded oil pumps, phaser limiter, upgraded hardware, springs. seals, bearings, etc.

Challenger and Builder forums are great places to find information. There are a bunch of Challengers built in all kinds of configurations that work and don't work so well.
