Re: Fuel

I've heard it as this- if the Shell gas is so much better, then why don't all gas companies offer it? Gas is regulated in the US by the EPA and require a minimum amount of additives and detergents. Shell could easily pay companies to research their gas and only publish the studies that review positively in their favor- but again if this is potentially so profitable, how come other companies haven't followed suit.

I tend to always use Sunoco. I have absolutely no evidence that the gas is superior than other 93s. It's a placebo thing...

I always use Shell gas in all my vehicles. Could be a placebo thing but the scary part is I will go out of my way to find a Shell station...

Edit: Always 93 no matter what the book says

The only 93 up here in Alberta is at Husky/Mohawk. Other than them, it's all 91. I don't know that their 93 is any better than the other 91s. I think some launch testing is called for. :-)

Re: Fuel

In Europe we use up to 98. The modern engines are equipped with knock sensors, if detected, they reduce the peformance to eliminate the Problem. Technically, the engine would adjust itself to 91 or even lower. However, you pay with less performance and probably other problems. One should use the gas specified for the engine.
BTW: my 40 year old trumph asks for 100, I have to run that with 98 as well...

Happy Day

Achim

I had a '69 Pontiac GTO, and the owners manual stated the car was designed to run on 93 octane 'regular' gas. Good old days of leaded gas...

Re: Fuel

not buying fuel for your vehicle unless it is from a specific gas station is ridiculous. I'll enjoy the same performance and longevity from the place selling it the cheapest. Your only concerns are correct octane, and is the guy filling the tanks while you are there.

I "try" to buy from companies that use north american crude for their gasoline. ...has nothing to do with special formulations...additives etc.
