GT Haus - Advice

I've found myself in an interesting situation, and I need opinions.

First, let's get some things out of the way. I think GT Haus is a beautifully constructed exhaust system, albeit WAY overkill for a $70k car. That's craftsmanship I wouldn't put on anything less than a few hundred grand.

I hate open exhausts on street cars unless it's something crazy like a Carerra GT or Enzo.

Now that's out of the way here is the "problem". I have a custom ARH + Borla Exhaust setup. I love it. I get compliments all the time and I think it sounds great. My father on the other hand has been making fun of it since I got it. He says it "sounds like some mexican from the barrio in their loud truck". That's not a compliment. For my ears, my Jeep has a very tuned sound and actually sounds nothing like a truck. For him it sounds high pitched and crappy.

He was riding with me last week and he said "I'm embarassed, please change it". I told him I've already spent around $1500+ so I am not going to spend anymore when I like it. Then he said those magic words, "I'll pay for you to change it. An exhaust should be deep and throaty." I went on to describe the GT Haus exhaust and explain that it's allegedly very deep. He tells me to show him a video and if he likes it he'll buy it for me.

Usually I wouldn't even consider this charity but I must say I'm intrigued. The main problem is I'm attached to my custom set up. I love it.

So what are your thoughts? Anyone in the Houston area with a GT Haus?

DISCLAIMER: I'm not some spoiled kid. I'm 31, I bought my Jeep completely on my own. I wouldn't let him buy me a car if he offered.

^ So would you change even though you love your current exhaust?

If someone offered to buy me the GT HAUS I wouldn't hesitate for a second. I don't care who the person is hahaha that exhaust is downright mean and belongs on a SRT

First of all, I wouldn't look at this decision from a money standpoint free or not. It comes down to what you value the most. Is it the bling factor or is it exhaust note? If both exhausts were worth the same, which one would you go for?

There is nothing wrong with keeping what you like/love just as long you still keep an open mind to new experiences/opportunities and not keep yourself from potentially finding what you truly enjoy or love as personal preferences change as a person evolves and sees more life experiences through their lives.

If you are still on the fence and the youtube vids aren't enough and you have the time, I would totally hop on a plane and see if I could get a personal demo of the GT Haus from a welcoming forum member. Nothing beats seeing/hearing something with your own two eyes and ears especially since the parts and labor costs of going this route is a decent chunk of change. Just try to get over the initial fascination of this beastly exhaust and try to imagine driving with it every day.

Of course if you were a dick, you could just go for it and then if you didn't like it, you could swap it back out with your old setup and then flip it.

Re: GT Haus - Advice

i think you should just decide on the exhaust you think sounds the best to you and not your father. he isn't the one driving it all the time even though he is offering to buy a new one for you. i personally kind of like the custom borla set up you have, was thinking about doing that as well sometime soon...

Thanks. My dad is a funny guy and it's largely in jest, but I know it bothers him. I don't need his approval but I do admire and respect him more than anyone else on this planet. I know where he is coming from. He's never steered me wrong before. I meet with customers and suppliers often and coming across as juvenile can hurt relations. Even something as subtle as what kind of car you drive can have an effect, like it or not. A prime example would be a Mercedes vs my Jeep. I can drive my $70k Jeep to work and no one cars, but if I show up in a cheap C250 Mercedes all hell will break loose.

We work together and I'm next in line so there is an image I have to maintain. It seems silly that how my car sounds or looks affects how people view me but that's reality.

So what I need to find out is if the GT Haus is more quiet and deep in closed mode vs my setup. I'm hoping it's at least louder than the Borla ATAK because that was quiet IMO.

Re: GT Haus - Advice

Get the GT Haus, you will not for one second regret it. I get so many compliments on it, men, grown ass men get this one mouth OMFG look when they hear it in open throttle mode.

The GT Haus makes you want to drive more. it makes the SRT a different beast. I appreciate it's 3500 area but let's face it, you have a chance for a freebie...

Most everyone here now dislikes you greatly.

Do it man, you'll be pleased.

Do it. How often can you say I have a GT Haus on my SRT. I reckon that line could almost pick up chicks too if you say it the right way. Maybe in a Schwarzenegger accent.

I have the GTHaus and still to this day I have not heard a single SRT Jeep exhaust that compares. There really isn't a competitor for GTHaus. They make hands down the best set up for our jeeps and it makes them sound EXACTLY how they should off the line. I'm sure your custom set up is nice but I highly doubt it's GTHaus caliber.

Good luck with your decision.
