GThaus issue flaps open

Having a bit of a problem and wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this. I usually leave the exhaust in Open mode but here and there i go for a quiet ride and close the flaps. Yesterday i was driving around in Closed mode and floored the car on the highway. The Flaps opened up a little and started to whistle. By the time i got to my place the exhaust sounded like fully opened.
Today i tried it again and when i floor the car from a dig with the flaps closed they will partially open. Is something wrong with my flaps or others have this issues"?

Re: GThaus issue flaps open

I haven't had any issue with this system. I have about a year and a half and 12000 miles on it. I too usually am in open mode but ever now and again I closed them to give them some exercise. But them not staying closed seems a little odd. Maybe something came loose or stripped. Get her up on a lift. Keep us posted and I hope you fine out out what the problem is.

what it is is actually exhaust soot build up.... not letting the flaps fully close... happened to me... thats why i took the cutouts off the car... over time the exhaust will build up crap and it will get caked and then the flaps wont fully seal. its either that or the battery is going dead... when they go dead i believe that will usually open... check those two things out and let us know!

no problems here. About 20k miles on the system. I do think mine need to be realigned though

Re: GThaus issue flaps open

I have just helped a mate with the same problem. At first we thought it was the remote system not working properly, but it turned out that the grub screw that clamps the butterfly was a bit loose. After we had pulled the whole friggin motor assembly apart too lol. To fix it (if this is indeed your problem) you'll have to remove the muffler assembly, undo the three bolts holding the motor and remove it to access the grub screw. PITA job, but I think this may pop up more often as these exhausts start to age.

phillysrt is also right though, there is a shit load of carbon/soot buildup around the flaps too, so make sure you clean everything before reassembly.

Re: GThaus issue flaps open

Yep that was mine.... happened to both sides..
1st time it happened i ended up buying a new motor locally..

when it happened to 2nd side we found the grub screw was slipping, bit of a clean and some lock tight

Re: GThaus issue flaps open

I'm experiencing the same issue with my system. I'll have to get it into a shop soon to get it checked out. Went for a round trip from New York to Boston and the exhaust seemed to get louder and louder all along the way. Every time I made a pit stop I would find that the flaps have opened partially and would be able to close them with the remote. Very annoying and I hope it's not something I'll have to periodically do.

Re: GThaus issue flaps open

mine closed then opened slightly as the grub screw didnt hold it closed tight, i knew something wasnt right as i could hear the flap rattling when car was on

Re: GThaus issue flaps open

I've had it happen twice to me now. I actually only have one cutout mounted. The first time I emailed Chad, and he told GTHaus (back when Rob was there), and I had a whole new cutout assembly in a few days. This time Chad responded (as he always does), but GThaus pretty much blew me off. I am assuming that now I am on my own as its been two years and doubt its covered. So I am going to order a new cutout since the grub screw fell out, and the motor seems seized now. I took one out, and had a buddy with a lathe build me a "plug" to put where the cutout would go. So one side is forced closed, and the other operates with the cutout (usually open) its actually a pretty nice middle of the road loudness with one open and one closed. LOL. wanna get back to being able to open both for those fun highway moments out here in Italy. I like pulling up next to lambos, and rari's with open mode, and throwing a quick neutral rev out to make them jump. LOL.

Re: GThaus issue flaps open

Had my motor go out AND the grub screws backed out as well on the passenger side during christmas last year, now the grub screw backed out again. Its an easy fix but a pain in the ass. Got my replacement motor from Amazon here: Amazon.com: QTP MOTORKIT Replacement Electric Motor Kit for QTP Cutouts: Automotive came with grub screw which was nice. Used locktite and still backed out... trying jb weld this time.
