GTHaus Review From a Different Perspective

Well I finally got it installed today. I'm VERY pleased with the system. Here are the details.

My perspective is different because I had the Borla ATAK for a while, and I have had a custom cat back for even longer. When I saw the thread comparing Borla ATAK it worried me. I always thought the ATAK was relatively quiet. My custom setup (ATAK + American Racing X-pipe and Resonators) sounded awesome. Loud, but not too loud, great startup and idle, good sound throughout the RPM range, a good amount of drone however.

Now to the GTHaus, closed mode. Forget about comparing quality of sound and let's just cover loudness. We can just ignore the Borla ATAK then. It is not loud, it is quiet compared to the GTHaus. The difference between the GTHaus in closed and the Borla ATAK is more than twice that of the difference between ATAK and stock exhaust. Now let's compare it to my custom setup. The GTHaus has a much deeper startup. It is quieter than my custom but not by much. In idle my custom is noticeably louder. Low RPMs driving the GTHaus is not that loud, but give it a little gas and it gets very loud. So my custom is pretty loud no matter how much you accelerate, the GTHaus is tame early on but gets considerably louder than my custom setup when you get on the gas. A lot less drone on the GTHaus.

Overall I'd definitely recommend the GTHaus. I still love the sound of my custom setup, and if it was me buying I would have stuck with it. However the GT was a gift with no strings attached and a damn good one. Now if I was still stock and considering exhaust, I'd definitely consider the GTHaus a big contender if you are willing/able to drop the cash.

If any or all of what I wrote doesn't make sense, give me a break, I'm major jet lagged. I'll edit/add when I feel better.

I'll have up comparison videos later.

PS. I didn't mention open mode because the results of that go without saying.

Thanks man you always write quality posts compared to a lot of other junk that gets posted on forums. When I see A-kon as the name on the post I know its going to be something good -- at least a worthwhile read for sure.

Oh yeah ^. Thanks to Chad at Black Ops. Very easy to deal with, knowledgeable and patient with my questions, good prices, and great service. He promised me the system in late April or early May....I received it middle of March.

Thanks for posting!
I was considering the GTHaus for a time but ended up ordering the S-type Borla... I was concerned with the GTHaus being too loud at higher RPMs, and it seems your experience confirms that my worries were founded, plus I would have opened the valve once every blue moon at best... As I don't enjoy the raspier note of the Atak, the S-Type was the logical choice, and the price difference only made the decision easier.
In any case it's great to have so much feedback from many posters on these add-ons, it allows me (and others) to make educated choices!
Glad that you enjoy your new exhaust! Don't hesitate to post a vid at some point if you have time.

Every single day I go out in the beast. I start it, I sit, I smile. The rumble is just, awesome.

Congrats on your new addition A-Kon, welcome to the GT Haus brotherhood.

Here are two videos comparing new vs old. If you are wondering about the little piece of foil on the left pipe of my custom setup, that was there temporarily before I got it adjusted correctly. When the system warmed up the pipes would "grow" and start to melt some of the plastic under tray. After adjustment I had no more problems.

The moment when you know the valves opened....the goosebumps occur. God that exhaust is freaking amazing!

Just a little update. I don't have any solid numbers but I'm still comfortable commenting on performance from the GTHaus.

In open mode I have without a doubt lost power over my custom setup. It doesn't have the same getup off the line, and yes I have taken weather into account. It does however seem faster up top. This would be in line with what I've learned about headers on these. Lost low end torque with gains higher up.

In closed mode I haven't played with it enough to comment. It still doesn't feel as torque happy off the line as it did before. Being a slight difference this could definitely be caused by the change in weather.

Overall, no question about it the GTHaus sounds better than my custom setup in both closed and open. However, I feel the performance was better with my custom setup.

I agree. I notice a loss of power off the line when open. I don't think I lost any power with it closed. Anytime I go to the drag strip though I always keep it in closed mode. I agree though when it is in open mode and I am going full throttle on the highway that is feels to have much more push than if the valves were closed.

From my understanding there are two reasons:
1. The 6.4L motor needs a certain amount of back pressure. I don't think there is any HP loss in open mode, only low end torque. I came to this conclusion because that is what people were seeing with headers. Same concept, more exhaust flow, less restriction, resulted in lost low end torque but big gains up top.

2. The stock tune can't adjust for such a large increase in exhaust flow. I think this is tied in to number one.

Closed mode I don't think you'll lose any if much. It will still probably outflow stock. There are no resonators, only small mufflers.

I need this exhaust soooo bad!!

But…we are moving to NC this July and it will run me $4K just to ship the SRT and my 370Z there from San Diego. I'm also newly engaged, so that doesn't help. Hopefully I can get it by next spring; until then I will continue to listen to these videos over and over. Thanks for posting them!

That video going through the underpass made me shart a little. Holy wow, that exhaust is intense.

Also felt it necessary to comment on someone's SRT instagram I started following recently, that was "scaring" Prius drivers revving his engine with the ATAK. I told him they were probably thinking he should've gotten a GTHaus because it sounded so quite. He blocked me shortly after.

*I'm sure he's a member here. I just couldn't resist.

Update on performance in closed mode:

Today's weather: 62 degrees. 68% humidity.
Weight: 3/4" tank gas, 275lb driver + 200lb passenger
Launch: stock launch control setting which jumps up to 3000rpm if I hold it long enough

0-60 in 4.5 seconds in closed mode. Given the conditions, I don't feel like I lost any performance. I was going to do a second run 5 minutes later in open mode to compare but there were a lot of police in the area.

^ Good idea.

On the other hand, I always assumed the onboard Dyno was a gimmick. I never imagined that it would actually adjust according to mods. Can anyone confirm or deny if it will actually show higher HP numbers?

Well I can confirm there is no lost performance in closed mode over my custom setup. I ran a 4.2 0-60 this morning which is in line with what I was doing same conditions.

1/4 tank gas
53 degrees and 90% humidity
