It's BY FAR the most sinister looking. BMW's styling across the board has gone crazy the last few years.

Also, over 1/4 mile X5M vs. SRT in those videos, thats quite a small difference stock for stock. I'd be ok with that in a race.
Nobody's pulling 3.8 0-100km stock. Maybe down hill.

And those were beat downs. Look at the overhead shot at 2:12 of that video.

Doesn't the 0-60 in 4.7 seconds sound extremely slow for the SRT. Did they pull some spark plug wires or what?

Re: Had an encounter with an Explorer Sport

How many people do you see driving around in a BMW X5 M? Hell, how many do you see in an SRT Jeep?

Because we are car guys, we know too damn much about the "best" and benchmarks, etc. It's like shopping for a TV at Best Buy. They have all those damn TVs next to each other on the wall and so you can see these tiny minuet differences between the $2,000 model and $5,000 model. You gotta have the $5,000 model because it has an extra feature that you'll never use...If you never knew the $5,000 model existed, you would of bought the $2,000 model and be just as happy if not happier for saving some dough while its sitting by itself in your living room.

What I'm getting at is..if you never drove a BMW X5M or heard of it..you'd be sitting happy. The damn thing is a unicorn. SRT jeeps are almost mythical as well..I've only seen one around where I live & its a big city. Explorer Sport ecoboosts...I've seen 3 since I read this thread for the first time.

There's always bigger and better (X5M for $130k)..and always a better bang for the buck (Explorer Sport for $50k). I'm pretty damn happy with the SRT Jeep, and I come from having and driving whippled GT500s, procharged Raptors, HCI Z06S, and a slew of biturbo 63 AMGs. It's a great compromise between family SUV and performance SUV...plus its got a 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. It's definitely a happy medium.

Re: Had an encounter with an Explorer Sport

I had a 2013 Explorer Sport. Actually my wife did. We hated it. While it was quick, the acceleration just had a numb feeling to it. The seating position was beyond awkward. Cramped backseat. Fit and finish was horrible. Probably the most hated vehicle we have ever owned, out of many.

I used to love my explorers but the redesign made it impossible to buy one. I had a 92 98 and 2006 but couldn't do it once they no longer had real 4wd.

I know a guy who had 3 engines in his X5M (I think it was a 2010). I've also seen some guys have multiple transmissions replaced in their SRT's. I can't keep my fender flares from coming unstuck. No auto is perfect.

I agree on the seating position in the Explorer. Didn't care for it when my wife was shopping for an SUV.

I guess it is all about where you live. I probably see 5 or 6 SRT Jeeps a day near me (there are 3 on my small street alone). I see prob 3-4 X5/6Ms a day too.

Explorer Sports. Almost never. I like the looks of them but not for money. Looked at a Taurus SHO a few years ago. Loved look....Power was not there for the money

Fully loaded Taurus SHO is $45k. They discount to $38k. 365hp and AWD. How is the power not there for the money? Lol

Explorer Sports are relatively cheap. 3 rows, somewhat performance oriented CUV that only comes fully or nearly fully loaded for $45k... That's less than any Durango R/T or equal to. And definitely cheaper than the Grand Cherokee.

I've never seen an X5M in person. But I see about 10 explorer sports a day. But that's because we don't have a bimmer dealer within 3 hours of our town.
