Re: Had an encounter with an Explorer Sport

I'm running the Yokahama Parada Spec X's. This was my first time on the highway in a storm with it. One lane was clear and the other was mediocre. Trying to go over the light snow fringe between the two lanes at 20-30 mph made the car almost lose control on multiple occasions. When encountering a ball of packed snow, it caused my truck to buck wildly.

The lincoln never behaved in that way and it was running michelin ltx's.

I found in decent snow turn traction control off. It only works light snow imo.

Re: Had an encounter with an Explorer Sport

I tried it in normal mode and snow mode.

The car had to go in for some work at the dealer and the ser if writer first said it was because it has so much power and then because the tires are too wide.

I was planning to switch to blizzacks but got the wheels late in the season. I figured I'd switch after I experienced the base lime performance on the yokohamas.

I'm just running the stock Pirelli All Seasons that came on it and comparing it with the Aviator when I ran through the stock Good Year All Seasons. I ran Michelin X-Ice in winter after the stock and they were great.

I agree that much of the poor performance in snow is likely due to tire width.

I think the stock Pirelli is actually a 3 season tire. I ran them through the first snow storm and traction was horrible. I bought a set off Pirelli ice and snow and the difference was night and day. I really had to give it a decent amount of throttle for them to loose traction. If you live where you you get a good amount of snow then a winter set up is a wise and good investment. I'll probably put my 3 season tires back on in mid April ImageUploadedByJeepGarage1456193534.116702.jpg

Re: Had an encounter with an Explorer Sport

With the snow tires, does it feel like its glued to the road? What mode do you run it in?

Yep definitely sticks to the road. I drove on ice covered hard packed crap and the beast loved it. I tried them in all modes except track. Snow mode you could probably climb a mountain without fear of getting stuck

But imho...give me a jeep srt anyday...in any weather situation over an aviator. Do they even build those any longer? Wasnt it a ford escape? Fwd based?

Re: Had an encounter with an Explorer Sport

Ive had my jeep srt in 18" of snow ans went places others couldnt...even lowered. I have rides into my neigjborhood for many..including a local police officer. There is a very steep hill into my neighborhood and there were like 50 cars, trucks and suvs parked at the bottom. I went up without hardly a tire spin...and that was on 22" wheels/tires
