Had an encounter with an Explorer Sport

Explorer Sport pulled up next to me at a stop light and indicated he wanted to play a little. He probaly had raced GC Hemis before and had good luck against them. I dropped mine into Track mode and when the light turned green..., well you know the rest. Guess he didn't see the SRT on my back bumper.

An explorer? Not in the same league and I probably wouldn't have wasted the gas. An X5M though, that would have been worth a shot. Those are beasts.

Explorer Sports with the proper mods are actually pretty quick.

Livernois has one in the 12's with a downpipe, exhaust and tune.

They are not in the same league.

The only "mod" that would make that 365HP v6 anything close to SRT performance would be a trade in. And then of course there's the shitty handling and pedestrian braking...

Coming from a former (and still at heart) FoMoCo guy, I'd have to agree, having recently chose between the two.

I looked at the Explorer Sport every way I could to attempt to justify it over the SRT and just couldn't do it. I had to ask myself why I would spend nearly $60 (CAD) on a vehicle I only "sort of" liked, when I could spend just over $60 on a vehicle I loved.

Gone are the days when Ford's SVT brand were somewhat of pioneers with niche vehicles like the SVT Lightning, SVT Contour and even the Taurus SHO. Ford has some catching up to do before they win me back.

Oddly enough I was paced today by a really sharp, black, debadged and possibly lowered Explorer Sport on a freeway. Still a sharp looking SUV.

Re: Had an encounter with an Explorer Sport

The Explorer Sport is the only one I like. Still, wouldn't see my self buying one. I'd love to see a hemi go up against their eco boost. Can't imagine there be big disappointment. I assume they weigh less and push similarly tq numbers???

Explorer Sport is the 3.5L Twin Turbo Ecoboost rated for 365hp, 350 lb-ft.

"The 2016 Sport gets to 60 mph in 6.0 seconds flat, a tenth behind the version we tested in 2013, and it ran the quarter-mile in 14.6 at 96 mph. Nevertheless, itís still measurably quicker (by 0.4 seconds to 60 mph) than a Dodge Durango R/T with the 5.7-liter Hemi V-8." http://m.caranddriver.com/ford/explorer

The new 3.5L Ecoboost in the second generation 2017 Raptor is claimed to exceed the 411hp and 432 lb-ft that the previous 6.2L V8 made, but Ford has yet to release the actual numbers.

Did I say they were in the same league? I meerly said that in a straight line (where the OP's story took place), Explorer Sports (along with every other Ecoboost vehicle) can be made sneaky fast with little effort. That's the benefit of twin turbos from the factory.

There are Ford Flex's deep in the 12's.

Chuckle all you want....until you end up like this guy.

Or this guy (2nd half of this video is hard to watch)....

Re: Had an encounter with an Explorer Sport

The X5M mentioned in this thread is further out of our league, than we are out of the Explorer's.
