Re: Hand Prints on Windshield

This reminds me of an incident with my 09 SRT. The issue was clearly a defect from the factory but i had to argue for weeks and threaten court until the issue was resolved..You would think that after paying for a 60K Jeep that they would be able to eat the cost of a windshield just to appease you. For crying out loud its only $100 to get one replaced with insurance! What a crock.

Ummm, replacing a windshield costs a ton more than $ 100. Just because you and I would pay that as a deductible on our auto policies, the actual cost of replacing it is much, much higher. Then factor in Chryco has to pay all the costs up front to have a new one purchased and installed, you could clearly understand it's not a cheap undertaking. I would certainly hope Chryco would get the replacement costs back from the windshield manufacturer, as it's looks like it’s clearly their fault.

All that being said, I had no problem getting mine replaced. My dealer looked at it, tried to clean it and then concurred it needed replacing, Had it done yesterday with no issue at all. Once again, it's all about the dealer.

Re: Hand Prints on Windshield

I'm not sure how the corporate reimbursement to the dealer works but normally employee overhead are largely fixed costs. Say the tech's take home pay is $30/ hour. The cost to employ that person is normally 2.5 to 3.5 times that amount, and considers employment taxes, insurance, some portion of the building space, special tools, etc., most of which are fixed costs. So if a tech puts in 40 hours/ week and takes two hours to replace a windshield the actual cost to the dealer is probably less than $100. The glass may cost $500 or so but that cost should be borne by the manufacturer, which Chrysler should be able to recoup.

I would think Chryco could recoup the labor costs from the supplier too unless the ultimate QC falls on them to not let the vehicle leave the factory that way or to stop before it even gets installed.
