That could also be the problem if everything else checks out. If it is in fact the relay, I have a brand new extra one if interested.

Re: Headlight Ribbon DRL Activation Kit

@CHERN This is a weird one...Lets get to the bottom if this.

-to confirm the relay is working simply listen for the audible click when the headlights are turned on. Since your passenger's side ribbon is working as intended I believe the relay is fine.

-Disconnect the 'Driver DRL' wire to ensure that when the parking lights or headlights are turned on the ribbon turns on dim. This will ensure its working without the harness correctly.

*I think our first step is to ensure the Driver Headlight ribbon comes on dim with out the harness involved, then we can troubleshoot from there.*

The line going to the 'Driver DRL' and 'Passenger DRL' are the same connection. There should be no difference between the two sides operation. Once the headlights turn on the relay cuts 12V to the 'Driver DRL' and 'Passenger DRL', this allows the normal dim operation to return.

Re: Headlight Ribbon DRL Activation Kit

@CHERN can you also confirm you are seeing full intensity of the ribbons with the headlights off...

Re: Headlight Ribbon DRL Activation Kit

They were working as they should before I installed the harness but I can double check tomorrow and yes they do go to full intensity and to dim mode but the driver one turns off first. Very strange. If they are both on the same wire then I don't know why it turns off. If it was a bad connection wouldn't it not work at all?

Re: Headlight Ribbon DRL Activation Kit

It is also weird that it only does this when the lights are turned on the first time. After the first time it works properly when you turn the headlights on and off. It dims as it should with no interruption.

Yes that is very weird. I tested applying 12V to the DRL wires aggressively on/off with both the headlights on and off. The transition from dim to full intensity was never delayed or odd in anyway.

I'm going to go test some things on mine right now. Keep me posted on your findings please.

Re: Headlight Ribbon DRL Activation Kit

Are the wires thermally insulated (type of material, heat resistance etc) ? It might be some excess heat affecting the wire's conductivity.

Wires are soldered then heat shrunk. The wire is 16 gauge stranded copper. A conductivity issue would present itself by not lighting the DRL to full intensity at any time.

The issue of the ribbon not going to dim is outside of the relay operation from my research since we are simply cutting 12v and allowing the factory headlight to power the ribbon dimly as per normal operation.

Re: Headlight Ribbon DRL Activation Kit

Hey guys

I got up this morning and sorted everything out. I first disconnected the driver side drl and it worked normal with it disconnected. When I turned on the headlights the passenger drl turned off and never came back on so then I realized it was a connection problem with the low beam wire and as soon as I disconnected the low beam wire I noticed it had punctured the side of the wire and not the dead center. So once I reconnected it properly it all worked just as it should. Thanks again for all your help and thanks to clstech for a great harness.

Great job. Glad you figured it out. Now all we need is a member to crack the ECU so we can tune these damn things.

Very Good to hear!! I think Scott should have his installed as well waiting on his feedback...

@CHERN any criticisms or praises on the harness/connectors?
