Re: Headlight Ribbon DRL Activation Kit

The harness is great the only thing that can be worked with is the length but that is not a big issue. Just a little shorter would be perfect. The connectors are great, they leave a small footprint and as long as they are dead center they work great.

Re: Headlight Ribbon DRL Activation Kit

Can the LED strip work as soon as the car is switched on, rather than only when on gear ?

Re: Headlight Ribbon DRL Activation Kit

From my research the bumper LED strip is activated by canbus signals. The signal activates the strip to be on bright/on dim/off.

I may be incorrect.

Re: Headlight Ribbon DRL Activation Kit

Thank you for replying.

To anyone interested, I have summarised how this mod works :

HI = High Intensity
LI = Low Intensity
PL = Parking Lights
HL = Head Lights (far right)

- FOR NON-EXPORT MODELS - *
  1. When the Light Switcher is set to A : HID is ON/OFF - RIBBON is ON at LI/HI - LED STRIP is ON at LI/HI
  2. When the Light Switcher is set to O : HID is OFF - RIBBON is ON at HI - LED STRIP is ON at HI
  3. When the Light Switcher is set to PL: HID is OFF - RIBBON is ON at HI - LED STRIP is ON at HI
  4. When the Light Switcher is set to HL: HID is ON - RIBBON is ON at LI - LED STRIP is ON at LI
* Confirmed by CLSTech
____

- FOR EXPORT MODELS - **

At A : LED strip + Ribbon will be ON at daylight, but LED strip turns OFF at night. High intensity in daylight, low intensity at night.
At O : LED strip + Ribbon will be ON at full intensity all the time.
At PL : No change (unless intensity changes)
At HL : No change (unless intensity changes)

** Not completely sure about these since I haven't got my hands on the mod yet, but the logic makes sense.

Hope it will help anyone with doubts.

Remember the auto switch position dictates the HID being on or off based on daylight. The headlight ribbon DRL then follows the operation of "HID on , Low Intensity" or "HID off, high intensity"

Right, not sure my truck is wired the same than yours from the factory, even though I was happy to have feedback from an "Export" truck owner...
My bumper LED strips come ON when I put the truck in gear and the light switch knob is on "O" (or "A") or even PL.
With the switch on PL and the truck in Park, I have only the LED Ribbon ON, dim mode (Bumper strip is OFF).
With the switch on HL (or "A"), I have the HIDs as well as the LED Ribbon ON, dim mode too (Bumper strip is OFF).
I've never seen what bright mode gives on the LED Ribbons... So I guess I will have to go look at headlight connectors to see if I actually have this bright mode and the corresponding wire or not...

From this, I assume I could probably do without the relay and just have a wire that goes from the DRL (LED bumper strip) fuse and that powers the LED Ribbons on bright, if at all possible on my truck, because I don't seem to have a factory mode where I have strip and ribbon ON at the same time to start with...

Sorry for the confusion, I was trying to illustrate how the mod works. I haven't used it on mine since it's built the same way you described it. I should clarify that the configuration doesn't work for exports.

However I came to a conclusion that if I used this mod, the following will happen :

- FOR EXPORT MODELS -

At A : LED strip + Ribbon will be ON at daylight, but LED strip turns OFF at night. High intensity in daylight, low intensity at night.
At O : LED strip + Ribbon will be ON at full intensity all the time.
At PL : No change (unless intensity changes)
At HL : No change (unless intensity changes)

Not completely sure about these since I haven't got my hands on the mod yet, but the logic makes sense.

___

However, I am also trying to find a way to modify the LED Strip directly for our export models. In this way, the LED Strip will illuminate at A during day and night, at O with full intensity, and at PL and HL. Otherwise, we can settle with the outcome I concluded above until further notice.

The US model does not have a mode from the factory that has headlight ribbons on at Full Intensity at anytime. (this is one reason we created the harness)

I think the difference with the export trucks is that the bumper strip goes OFF with the HIDS or Parking Lights. The US version has the bumper strips on dimly with parking lights or HIDS on. Bumper Strips go to full intensity when the vehicle is in gear and the parking lights or headlights are not enabled.

The kit does not interact with the bumper Strips in anyway. The kit for sure will make the headlight ribbons go to full intensity when the headlights are not on. You have the option of dimming the headlight ribbons based upoin the parking lights being turned on or the headlights being turned on.
