Help...Front Sway Bar Broken

Folks,

Still waiting on the Dealership to get back to me, but as it stands now, they have told me.."We drove your Jeep and heard the noise, and found your front stabilizer bar broken."

I have asked for more detail on how it is broken, but to me this is not your "normal wear and tear item", and should almost certainly be covered by the manufacturer.

I just recently came out of warranty, but have had this same issue looked at in the past (2.5 years ago) by a dealership in the States (i'm in Austria right now) and they heard the noise but couldn't find a problem.

One other point to note...I just recently lowered the Jeep on RM Mids and replaced the end links with BlackOps end links. None of those mods should have caused any undue stress on the sway bar, and certainly not enough to cause it to break.

To any and everyone's knowledge/opinion, should this be an item or issue that I take up with Jeep? Otherwise it will cost me 950 Euro (circa $1000) to get replaced/fixed.

Mike

Re: Help...Front Sway Bar Broken

Even if you were in warranty the lowering springs and aftermarket sway bar end links give Chrysler enough of a reason to decline the warranty repair on a sway bar unfortunately. Not trying to be a dick but that is what you would hear from any dealership.

Re: Help...Front Sway Bar Broken

I'm betting it's one of the end links broken, not the actual swaybar. I'm in Australia and my mates car has had both side end links fail.... blacktops kit.

Re: Help...Front Sway Bar Broken

I imagine dealers would do anything in their power to come up with a reason to not cover warranty items.

I know the Magnuson-Moss (spelling) Act provides that the onus is on the dealership/manufacturer to prove that the Aftermarket part caused the issue, but then again, I am out of warranty so this is all a moot point.

Anyway, I went down to the dealership to look at this "broken" sway bar. Come to find out...the sway bar is not broken, but the bushings are bad! I asked them to get the Jeep on the lift so I could see the bad bushings.

Now mind you I am no mechanic, but the bushings did not look worn out or torn, or anything for that matter. I asked why they couldn't just replace the bushings, to which they said "Not possible, you need all new sway bar, and will also need new end links."

I just put the BlackOpsAutoworks end links on a month ago, and they still looked completely fine!!!

I thanked the mechanic, and the service rep., and got the hell out of there.

Someone please tell me that it is entirely possible to replace just the bushings on the sway bar.

Mike

Pretty sure you can replace the bushings.

I will double check if i get time, but if i recall the parts catalog states the bushings are replaced with the sway bar as a unit from chrysler.

Yikes!

I truly hope that just the busings can be replaced. Although, I won't kid myself to think that this will fix my "front end clunking".

J4J has our particular Sway bar for $378, which includes the OEM bushings.

With some help, I found Energy Suspension bushings (with Zerk fittings) that would fit the sway bar, but still not sure if it's possible to replace "just" the bushings. The Energy ones look as if they need to be slid on vs. the OEM ones that clamp on.

Would you even be able to slide a bushing on? I imagine they are made to fit quite snug, and sliding it on could be problematic.

Re: Help...Front Sway Bar Broken

You would definitely need a press. Not familiar with anyone that has replaced them.
