Range Rover Sport SVR laps the 'Ring in 8:14 [Video] | New and Used Car Reviews, Research & Automotive-Industry News & LeftLaneNews

Look, I hate Range Rover. It's not an envy thing, I just hate them. I can afford one, I just hate them. They are nice looking, I just hate them. Did I mention I hate them? Worst of all are the people they typically appeal to. My douchiest friends of all...do they drove Porsche, Mercedes, Ferrari, Lambo? No, douchiest friends drive Range Rovers.

Now you know I'm not biased. Holy Shit that's a fast time. 2012 SRT Jeep did it in 8:49. Now keep in mind the RR obviously has spent a lot more time testing and tuning for that track whereas the Jeep came out of the box and made a few runs. Still, that's smoking.I'm sure a 2014 SRT that practiced could get it into the high 8:20s low 8:30s.

I fully expect SRT to stop making excuses and give us a 2018 SRT Jeep with the 6.2SC, 300-500lbs reduced weight for $80k loaded (minus TVs, etc,). If they do this it will be sold out at MSRP.

That's pretty darn impressive Onroad/Track performance indeed!

And it can also still go Offroad!

Wish there was a Jeep Grand Cherokee version that could compete with it performance-wise in BOTH arenas.

^^ Putting the Hellcat into this generation won't help the Ring time much. Putting the Hellcat in the Jeep would be the dumbest business decision ever (I am in business). It makes absolutely no sense. You have a model (SRT Jeep) that is selling great and is very profitable. It will likely stay that way for the rest of its' life cycle. Why dump all that R&D etc. to put it where it's not needed? You wouldn't. To break even they'd have to charge $100k+ for it. When SRT released the 2012 they knew that the X5M and ML63 and Cayenne TT were faster. What's another faster SUV going to do to inspire that?

Better yet, wait until you can roll everything into one with the next platform. One SRT engine for the Jeep which means one type of tranny, differential, etc. thus reducing the unit cost.

I'm willing to bet $1 on this.

Listen I have the possible fix right here. Chrysler should offer this hellcat type of supercharger for certain engines/cars like the 5.7,6.1,6.4 hemi motors as a dealership modification with 30,000 mile warranty on the blower.

It should include new fortified internals, program, and blower for a reasonable price and offer it like an option on the truck. If I am not mistaken they did some thing like this on the Cadillac Escalades a while back. If we want it we pay for it and if we don't then we don't. But IMO we got a steal of a deal I think for a 65k truck that looks like this and does everything it does now normally aspirated. So I would have paid for this option if it was available.

Cool video, fast truck for sure (and I don't hate RRs with the same passion as A-kon), but let's not get carried away with 'Ring times.

Saw a post on a local forum showing a link to the same video, and the poster (also the forum admin') takes his Porsche GT3 to the 'Ring several times a year, and his question was (free translation):
"...Is the time on the 20.6, the 20.83, rolling start or from a standstill?..."
I don't get exacly what the 20.6 and the 20.83 are (never been to the Nurburgring myself), but I gather that we may not be comparing apples to apples...

Ok, good to know. I religiously kept my Trinity when I upgraded from the WK1 to the WK2, but I thought uploading tunes in the '14 was not possible, I understand from your post that it is possible but not 100% fail proof...
How much of a difference did it make? It did a big difference in my '07 Jeep SRT8, I can barely imagine how your '14 feels now.

Honest answer here. The can tune from diablo was a bit noticeable. Maybe placebo effect but I did pull off some decent zero to sixties. The johan tune is more noticeable as it feels different when it climbs through the higher rpms. It used to feel like it lost some power but now she pulls hard all the way up. Its still crazy hot here in Florida so my zero to sixty times suck. 4.7 to 4.9. I did pull of a 3.9 in december when I got the can tune on but then again it was 40 degrees out and no humidity. Supposedly johan said he tweaked my torque management and timing. So until I get some cold weather there is no apples to apples. But I am one of the few with no problems so im not updating my pcm software with any updates from stealership.

Vehicle Car Odometer Measuring instrument Auto part

And yes my speed says 69.

I have the Diablo 93 canned tune loaded on my 14. I just loaded back to stock while the dealer updated all the PCM, TCM and body control modules. Should I be concerned about loading the Diablo tune back on now??!

Brother that would be a call I can't make. Email johan at diablo or call their customer service but I would just make sure before you locked something up that their update doesnt effect their software

In the winter you should take a new RR sport without any problem. Our NA motors suffer a lot more in the summer. I've said it 1000 times but I'd really like to get it on video to demonstrate. Me vs a (2013 or 2014) Cayenne TT in summer and then same race same cars in the winter. Huge difference for me. I lost in the summer and won in the winter.

Completely agree! Us Texas boys get it the worst lol

Well Land Rover posted a video showing the RR SVR at the Ring:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qheTOY0-H9o

0-60 time of 4.5 seconds? Not very impressed since the WK2 SRT will do that with almost 100 less HP. :slapfight:
Of course, the RR SVR does still retain OFF ROAD ability that the SRT sadly lacks. :(

Not impressed at all with the 0-60. I know I know the hardcore racers hate internet warriors comparing 0-60, but let's face it. For the majority of us that's what matters. 0-60.That's what we're likely to use on the street. If I smoke someone at a stoplight on a side street I'm not going to run it up through the 1/4 mile. Way too dangerous, Usually I shut it down around 70. Yes 1/4 mile is very important but 0-60 still is the ultimate street benchmark for most of us.

Hellcat Jeep will be pulling it in the 3s year round.

The kraut wagons are clearly ahead of the Jeep SRT in power, appointments, fit and finish...what else did I leave out?
Things aren't going to change guys. Chryco has already priced itself out of the serious performance SUV market with their mediocre, over priced 6.4 offering. Geez, the basic 2014 X5 5.0 is already faster touting a 4.3 0-60 and a 12.8 quarter @109 and it does this with 445 horses. No way the SRT even gets close to the newly awaited X5M or the new Cayenne TT or even an older M63 no matter if you're in the heat of Dallas or the bitter cold of North Dakota. The Jeeps are quick to about 30-40mph from the lower gearing, after that, the light pole to light pole race needs to be over because you are fixing to get walked on. I don't like it, but its all the truth. Hopefully Jeep will step up and get serious about actually competing, but its going to take a lot more than just more power to justify an astronomical price tag. The flagship of Jeep shouldn't come with crappy seats, plastic interior pieces that look to be from recycled keyboards, and a plethora of issues that are reoccurring since the launch of the '12 platform.

I disagree with your view on appointments, fit , finish, materials etc. I'm sure you are just trolling for an argument though

Wow. First off I'm not sure which crackpot magazine posted a 0-60 of 4.3 in the new X5 5.0 XDrive but that's simply not reality. I've since had a run in with one and very comfortably took him to 50.

Regarding the '14 SRT vs the Cayenne TT. What I said is not speculation, it's a fact. I've run one in the winter and I beat him. Not smoked but beat and we shut it down under 100. That was in Houston winter. I will post videos of me doing it again this year.

Lastly, I don't get why some people are so down on the SRT Jeep. Especially the interior. I have friends (real friends, not internet friends), with Ford GT, Gallardos, 458, F12, 430 Scud, X5s, RRs, etc. etc. etc. My wife has a 2014 ML Mercedes. I've been in and experienced cars across the spectrum. The Jeep's interior is 100% on par with it's price point. If I had a dollar for every time a valet at a high end restaurant compliments and can't believe how "nice my Jeep is inside". Yes the fit and finish could use some work, etc. But you are using a description of a WK1 and applying it to a 2014 WK2. That's so far out of reach that a difference in opinion cannot justify it. You must have had a lot of problems with yours. That or you had a 12-13 and not a 14.

I have no buyers remorse. The newness has not worn off one bit. The guys you speak of are generally the type of people who bought the SRT not because they loved what it stood for, but because it was the best they felt comfortable purchasing at the time. I had a $100k budget when shopping with some stretch room, comfortably. Bring that up to a $150k budget. I still wouldn't buy the BMW or the Mercedes. My wife's ML was $60k and it is a turd. It has the same excitement level as a Honda Accord. I know because I've owned both. I don't want a Mercedes or BMW. I don't buy into the hype and I'm not a brand whore...now if we are talking new S class or AWD E63 then yes, I'd love one. But aside from that meh.

Regardless, $80k well equipped HellCat Jeep will embarrass the Krauts. It will do it for a fraction of the price. It will look 10X better. And it will still be a Jeep. Out of the X5M, ML63, and Cayenne TT, the only car that has an OMG interior is the Cayenne. The rest are boring and very unexciting. The Jeep interior is good enough. I'd rather them spend the additional coin on performance.

What he said , I've owned 46 cars and I have had Mercs , Beemers , Holdens, Fords, Subaru etc etc all high end models and I love the 2014 interior it just needs a couple tweaks here and there and my friends and family always comment how nice inside the car is not to mention the tech is right up there , but buggy as hell the tech really needs more regular firmware updates or just fix it right the first time ...

My "magical" WK2 2014 has run a 3.7 0-60 and a 12.33 1/4 mile for more than 1/2 the cost. Ive owned 2 wk2's in 3 years...so if I wanted a Cayenne TT, RR sport or X5m....I could've bought one. I considered them....test drove them and still ended up with the best bang for buck super SUV on the market...with $80k to play with over the price of a Cayenne TT. The interiors are in the eye of the beholder. You may like the BMW interiors...I don't and never have. The cayenne TT was like a 80s jet fighter with literally 1000 buttons. The RR Sport was so girly, OVERDONE and douche baggy looking just like 99% of its owners. They are very nice...don't get me wrong...but I like the simplicity, yet sleak and modern SRT interior. And I don't have to worry about my little boy throwing his baseball cleats or batbag in the floor board and messing up my RR Sports douchebag interior.....which is probably wet from the leaky sunroof.

Wow. The top performance SUV's the world can provide and they all suck, they all are driven by douche's....and all the drivers look like douche's as well :) That sounds like a jealous six year old sTina. I thought we were talking about vehicles, not the looks owners. Always the same line. I have driven them ALL and I can afford ALL, yet I continue to buy the slowest, most problematic and most over valued AND over priced. The new RR just beat a '12 SRT on the Nurburgring by over 30 seconds. Oh but wait, we didn't factor in the magical 8 speed of the '14. Surely that 8 speed would cut a full minute off and put the SRT back on top by 30 seconds. Bottom of the barrel boys and 2015 is only going to set the Jeep back further.

As per C&D magazine
The X5 M will be powered by a turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 with output of nearly 600 horsepower and well over 500 lb-ft of torque. An eight-speed, paddle-shifted, dual clutch automatic will be tasked with shifting duties. This will be an updated evolution of the powertrain found in the previous X5 M, where it produced 555 horses and 500 lb-ft of torque and could sling the big beast from rest to 60 mph in four seconds flat. Considering that the current X5 xDrive50i can hit 60 in just 4.3 seconds with only 445 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque, don’t be surprised to see the 2015 X5 M do the deed in the high threes on its way to a top speed likely electronically limited to 174 mph, the same as most BMW M cars.
