Re: How do most of you deal with absense of the spare?

So what is the tire size of the 18" full size spare? I guess this size would be a good winter tire size setup. Maybe even on black steelies!

If you did not get the tow package. Tow package vehicles get a full size spare.

Re: How do most of you deal with absense of the spare?

here in mexico we can not choose packages. we only get 1 trim. and it does not come with a full size spare. do you have the part # for the full size spare? also where does it fit?.
I have one on order and it gets here at the end of march, but roads ehre are pretty bad and a full size spare would be much better.
regards

Re: How do most of you deal with absense of the spare?

Who ever has the tow package equipped from the factory post up some pics of your spare. I think they may all be the same, tow package or not. We had similar questions on the red site and seems there wasn't a difference. They both come with "full" size spares.

Sorry maybe I am reading this wrong...but the 2012 SRT8 comes with Run flats correct? Are both tire options run flats? But they offer a small donut without the tow package and a full size with the tow package?

Run flats and a spare?

I have the tow package and have the "all season" tire package which are run flats. My spare, which I don't understand since the tires are run flat, is a huge 20" donut to clear the brakes but not a full size spare. I think all the SRT's are like this.

Re: How do most of you deal with absense of the spare?

Even run flats have there limitations. I like having run flats and a spare. I once had to wait 2 weeks for run flat tires when I was told 2-3 days. Large run flats may not always be in stock when you need it. Plus, what if you damage a run flat and can't drive on it? A spare would be handy. On a long trips run flats and a spare are great. Intown DD you can get away without a spare.

People spoke, that's what they wanted so that's what they got. Spare and run flats.

Re: How do most of you deal with absense of the spare?

It's all good.

Just an FYI, remember you don't always have cell service. Travel out west plenty of times I loose reception here and there in the middle of TX,NM,AZ,etc... Maybe you get a wrecker service, but say you have hours to wait? I'd rather pop on the spare. Anywho, It's good to have options. Run flats are good for 50 miles they say. Drive long distance and chances are you'll ruin them and then need them relplaced. Hopefully they are in stock

It all comes down to the one moment you're hundreds or miles in the middle of "bum f_ck no where" and your options are limited. It's good to have backup and then some more.

If you're DDing in the city, take the spare and accessories out. Chances are you'll never need them. Same on a trip I suppose. But insurance is nice.

Yeah, Americans want it all. Then again no one forces you to buy American cars. Buy what makes you happy. For me it's a WK2 SRT8. If a spare tire is gonna slow it down, then it gives me more reasons to mod and go faster

SRT products are still one hell of a machine. Even if it comes with a spare.

I hear you. And this is no means directed at you - so rant mode on - But I guess that is part of the problem with American cars these days - bloat. That is a typical American way to look at what they want in a car. Essentially everythying. I might need this or I might need that. Not sure why they didn't put a mini bar and a lav somewhere in the back. Just in case...you never know I might want an oven to keep my extra large fries warm for the drive home after I waddle my fatass up to the burger counter. We all have cell phones so you are only a call away from a wrecker - how many people do you see on the side of the road actually changing tires these days. Yeah my wife is going to pull off a 20 inch dub and change the tire? Huh? There are probably some guys out there that can't pull off a 20 inch rim.

Any car with a 20 inch rim or over should be outlawed from having a spare - jesus.

It's stuff like this "more is more" attitude that makes Europeans laugh at us in terms of cars design, and use. They send us special seats for the "fat americans" Spare tire, jack, tools = weight. I have had run flats on probably 4 different cars - maybe 100k miles total and never had an issue approaching a flat or the need to replace a tire while "towing" or out on the road. I dont think in 25 years of driving that I ever once changed a tire on the side of the road.

If SRT means performance then let it perform. If it means towing and hauling and a spare and a backup for the back up spare - call it a Dodge Ram Pickup.

SRT - its dumb to have run flats, the associated cost and a spare. Jesus pick one - save some weight, fuel and add some performance.

Rant mode off.

P-Dawger. I am not bashing you, but in some countries where road assistance is pretty bad as well as the roads, the need of a full size spare is a must for longer trips.

diego

No argument in some countries - sure you might need run flats with a spare - but not here in the US.
