I noticed 2 things last night, I got flashed high beams at me for like the 5th time since driving and the left headlight appears higher than the right.
there white plastic adjust screws on the top of the lamps. Theres actually a hole in the radiator cowl...over top of the low beam to put a phillips screwdriver through to adjust up or down.
I also am having the problem of people flashing their bright lights at me. The dealer also told me it was computer controlled and no adjustment. I cannot seem to find the screws that are supposed to adjust them.
See the headlight aiming instructions on danielsternlighting.com. I had the same issue and dropped mine down about 2 inches at 25 feet. I think they came out of the factory out of range on my October 2013 WK2. Others say the Zenons dull a little after a couple of months as they break in. Anyway, it is very dangerous so see your dealer service department if you need help.
I get flashed at, not the good kind, all the time. It's nice when I want someone to get out of my way on the hwy because it shines directly into their mirrors but it sucks when people flash you going the other way. When I took it to the dealership they told me it was the right height. I waited a few weeks and did it again but asked them to lower them because people were flashing me. They told me it was the right height but this time he told me that people just aren't used to the HID lights and that they wouldn't adjust them. I'm going to adjust them myself, awesome info here. Thanks!
I asked a local dealer to rotate my tires with an oil change recently and they did not. So be skeptical when it is warranted. My lights have been perfect since the adjustment. Maybe they were set at the factory and the quadra lift position was not accounted for who knows?
See Scott's picture. There is a leveling screw for each headlamp that can be adjusted with a phillip screw driver. The auto level feature adjust the lamps when the vehicle is loaded. The software assume the lamps are correctly aimed unloaded.
After the Eibach install, noticed the way home this evening I was 'squirrel spotting' headlights were way too darn high. I must have pissed off a lot of drivers... my bad!
Scott's picture was great, Thank you!!! You need a hell of a long screwdriver, but it worked and one less reason for the boys in blue to pull me over . Takes a quiet a few turns to get lower them
I did look in all the controls for 'autoleveling' and can't see anything - only see option for auto turning of the headlights - but that is all... if it is there, I'm blind
Yet again, another reason this forum is a good thing.
This info in this old thread was useful for my new 2016 GC Limited Anniversary edition.
I'd like to add that (1) it takes a blade of at least 6.5" on the screw driver to reach that far. (2) a 3/16" straight blade did the trick better for me than any of my Phillips. I think it engaged the notches seen inside and bottom of the well. That said, it looks like a hex hole so if you have hex drivers with long reach so much the better. My hex drivers are only 5".
Assuming my garage floor is a plane, the factory set the lights such that at 15' my low-beam light "line" (bixenon) was about 2" above the center of the projector lens. On the road the light-line was about 1/3 of the way up on a sedan's back window. I set them to ~3.5" below level which should approximately give me "spec" of about 5" below level at 25'.
I do not have the adjustable suspension, so that isn't a factor.
I know this is an old thread but I have a 'new to me' 2014 SRT with 'aircraft searchable headlights'. In one call to the dealers they said, "needs a computer - bring it in" and "do it yourself with the adjustable screw"
I found the screw but it says L/R on it which I assumed was adjust left and right only. Need to get a longer driver to reach it but I'll be turning the bugger this weekend so I can see the road and avoid waking the creatures in the trees at night.
Anyhoo, wanted to say thanks for having this info out there - cheers.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but on the 2015/16 GC you can adjust them in the settings on the touch screen in your car. I recall seeing that. Unless I was mistaken.
Very old post. i have had my 2012 WK2 Jeep grand cherokee overland since new and the low beam lights have almost killed me several times as they were set too low! took it to a dealer and of course they said it was set correctly... i will be trying this later! THANK YOU FOR THE PICS!
Well! It worked!!!!!!! Wow dealerships are the worst. this shows the value in buying used vs when a car is brand new! used cars have support groups like this community that helps people...New cars you have to rely on the Dealership, which I have had to do for a while....
An old thread but a goody.
Have had same problems, when on low beam constantly flashed by oncoming vehicles. It seems all dealers no matter which country, Ozz or USA are all tarred with the same brush, "headlights are adjusted correctly". On second attempt the dealer adjusted them for me, now to bloody low, you can't win. Have had the wife hanging out the window with a torch they are so bad.
All sorted now thanks to this thread and photo by Scott.
Thanks guys, same problem here in UK with my HID lamps on an Overland. Fed up seeing the underbelly of low flying aircraft on hi beam and being dazzled by oncoming traffic who think I'm still on hi beam. Will have a go this weekend.
