How to remove hairline scratches from black vapor chrome wheels?

As the title states can I use a mild polish on them to mitigate the hairlines that accumulate from handling and improper washing by previous owner?

Figured how it looks applied to these rims it can't be a true chrome and must be some kind of paint and clearcoat. Looks like the factory sprayer wasn't able to really get into all of the holes on the spider monkeys so doesn't seem like a true dipped chrome.

try out the Adams Polishes Revive hand polish... they are a vendor on here and make some spectacular products. i would try a hand polish like their revive and if that doesnt work maybe a paint correction on them as a more serious option.

If they are clearcoated...and i think they are...a light rubbing compound and follow up polishes will bring it right out. I suggest mequiers m105 and m205...then...polsih and seal.

The wheels are PVD coated. Early wheels had issues with coverage and bonding, to it would flake off.

Treat them gently with a mild paint polish.

Then coat them with Modesta or Cquartz

Update: I tried Meguiars Ultimate Compound and it did wonders to the hairlines. Not perfect but MUCH better then they were. This was only a one rim test and in the garage at night so we will see in daylight how close I am. If I'm unable to get it with this compound I will try the Meguiars 105 and 205.

CQuartz? Is that the "UK version" made for lower temps. I'm confused though because that stuff seems like it's a protectant and not for polishing out scratches.

That's why he said "coat them"

As in protect them after polishing.

Good reading comprehension by me, whoops. I missed that last sentence, must have focused on the "polish" part and disregarded context for the rest of it.

I've polished one and looks pretty good but I'm think of doing it again and others with my porter cable random orbital polisher.

Have you tried one of those power balls in a small hand drill? They make them in small sizes that might be easier to maneuver into the nooks and crannies than the porter cable.

I wanted to use the "power cone" but it says it's for polishing metal wheels so I wasn't going to risk it if the foam was abrasive at all. I know I have a soft foam disc for putting on polishes and glazes.

So far I've only used a microfiber round pad to apply the compound.
