In the market...learned a few things today

Been lurking on the forum for a few months...finally decided to register.

While I don't own a WK2 SRT yet, I've been considering one for a while now to replace my Mazdaspeed3 as a daily driver. Finally got around to stopping by a couple of dealerships today and went for a nice test drive in the twisties. I definitely learned a few things that might be helpful to fellow potential buyers in the market.

#1 - Don't rule out the Laguna leather until you actually sit in it (better yet, test drive it.) I was always turned off by the color, but holy crap that is some nice leather. After a test drive with the Laguna leather and then switching over to a rig with the standard seat, it is absolutely a NIGHT and DAY difference. The best way I can describe it is that you feel like you're sitting "in" the Laguna leather seats, while you feel like you're sitting "on" the standard seats. I still wish they were available in black, but after today I definitely think I could learn to love the sepia color.

#2 - Do yourself a favor and take a test drive. And be sure to put it in Auto, Sport, and Track modes. It's remarkable how the character of the truck changes, from transmission shifts, to body roll and turn-in response. Sport and Track modes really do sharpen things up. Auto mode is nice and smooth all around, but still very sporty for an SUV. It's no hardcore corner carver, but I still came away impressed.

#3 - Do yourself a favor and take a test drive. The 6.4 sounds great. It's addictive.

#4 - For some reason, dealers are unable to order the Satin Carbon spider monkey wheels right now. Some dealers have a few early 2015 rigs with the Satin Carbon wheels on lots, but most everything recently seems to be the black vapor chrome. Anybody know what the deal with that is?

#5 - I don't get the black wheel thing. They just don't do it for me. Really I'm just frustrated more than anything (see #4).

#6 - The 8 speed transmission is awesome. So is UConnect and all the other features on this rig for that matter. It's really a nice overall package of luxury, sport and utility.

Looking forward to checking back in as an owner one day.

Re: In the market...learned a few things today

Thanks for the write up.
I too had ruled out the sepia due to color. (even went and looked at in person to confirm I hated the color)
Then after more reading I saw the benefit and compared having the non full leather to some other vehicles I have owned that were part suede and part leather as well... SO I went and sat in the Sepia and the standard side by side.

It has changed my whole process on what exterior color to get now..... Since I have now decided the Sepia is the right one for me (regardless of what the wife thinks- who went with me and did the same test, but still cant get over the color)
So now I am thinking my original exterior color choice wont flow well with the Sepia and am having to rethink that...

The other problem I am once again on here reading about is the shortages of colors available to be ordered and delivered in the normal time frame.... Since I need this vehicle 1st-2nd week of December... And not before...
So a February delivery will not work for me....

Being that I am in the car business, I have not driven one. Since I am unsure of my plans (color, order) I do not want to waste anyones time by driving it.. I know I'm going to buy it since there is nothing in the market like it that fits my needs (same thing with the last new car I bought). But I have been inside 5 if them now and played with things.... So that is good enough for me.

Re: In the market...learned a few things today

I despise black wheels and loved the black chrome. They are NOT black wheels by anymeans. They are a dark gray. I've never had them look even close to black. The satin carbon have been routinely voted the ugliest damn stock performance wheels ever created. I'd rather have the 3 spoke OG Viper wheels. Best bet is order a set of aftermarket wheels if you can afford them. In that case save yourself some money and get the goliaths.

Good write up btw. I agree with the sepia quality but I can't get over the Orange color. They were actually discounting them heavily in Houston because they weren't selling. A viper style quilted Laguna in black would be the ultimate IMO

If only that were offered. I would pay good money for that.

And the black vapor chrome wheels actually do work for me on certain colors. I really need to see the satin carbon finish in person before making a decision, but no dealers near me have any!

Here's a question for everybody...how easy is it to clean the spider monkey wheels? Especially since this is going to be a daily driver. Obviously the goliaths are about as easy as it gets in that department.

you cant clean the spider monkeys easy at all, add the fact that the factory brake pads are sooooo messy that your wheels will be black most the time no matter what color rims you have.

Agree with Scott, swapped pads and haven't had to clean the rims a fraction as much as with stockers

+1 for a pad change, although I went with Hawk Ceramic's.

HDD storage? Where.... that's so 2012 lol.

Already has 100miles on it? No mention of the DVD system, or that its a Red Vapour pack.

I suppose they don't have to try too hard to sell them lol.

Not for my taste. I've seriously never understand the black wheel thing or the matte paint thing. Honestly makes the vehicle look cheap to me. I've been able to appreciate storm troopers jeep as I view it more of a themed show vehicle, but in general the whole blacked out look (for my taste) is tacky and cheap.
