Re: Insurance Premiums

Erie insurance on my 15 SRT is $850 year. That is with rate lock protection. Any accidents or speeding tickets and rate doesn't increase. On my 14 GC overland they had me at $648 year with rate lock protection. I never saw an increase.

Re: Insurance Premiums

I have found that many insurance companies employ a strategy of slowing raising the rates over the years. The idea being that like the frog in the pot brought to boil you won't notice, or if you do the rise (at any one point) is small enough that it won't be worth the hassle of changing. We used to have allstate and this was totally their method. When we went to Geico it was literally 25% of what we were paying before.

From my experience the service is better. We actually had a car totaled a couple of years ago and it went really smooth. More than I can say based on previous claims experience with Allstate or Liberty Mutual.

Geico is top notch. I have had them personally for over 10 years and my family have been customers for IDK how long lol, but anything ever needed was smooth and no arguments.

Insurance Premiums

Insurance rates are going up across the industry. Two main reasons: severity or the cost per claim continues to rise. Just think about the technology being put into bumpers, sensors, cameras even simple windshields. A mere slight bump now costs thousands. The 2nd main issue which has been more unexpected in the industry is frequency is rising dramatically or the number of claim incidents. This is mainly due to gas prices being so low. Miles driven is going back up to historical pre 2008 levels, more cars are being sold, etc.

These combined pressures pushes loss costs higher; so average premiums will go up whether your a clean driver or not. Even if you haven't felt it yet on your specific policy, you will. Companies like Allstate will react a lot quicker to the pressure since they are stock owned where mutual companies can weather the pressure a little longer but will ultimately react in order to maintain solvency.

That's because Michigan has unlimited PIP or injury protection. So if you hit someone and injure them, they can basically rake you/insurance companies over the coals for life. It's basically ridden with fraud abuse and the state laws allow it. In the end everyone pays for it and a reason the average premiums are so high. This is the same case in NY, NJ and FL.
