What's ridiculous is this is not a true story. Do some research. FEMA has a list of services for emergency call out. If you come uninvited, you get turned away. But, I guess cause it was on the internet it was true.

Dear Chris Matthews,
I just researched the latest on this since initially seeing it days ago. The new press release, provided by a union shop owner of a company in Alabama, states they were not turned away.....but rather held until they signed the agreement or clarification could be made on whether a waiver could be acquired. Neither came, and all of a sudden Seaside Heights "no longer needed their service." Nor did anywhere else, allegedly, and they returned home.

Yes, no where else in NJ or NY needed power team help.

Re: Italian Jeep?.......that is the way to do it.......

Thanks for proving my point, Chris. Like I said, they weren't turned away after all, but there sure was a big to-do about paperwork instead of just letting them go to work and everyone STFU. And after traveling that far, and the amount of power work that needs to be done across that state....they just decided, "hey, I guess we should just go home, they don't need us and we aren't sure about the paperwork." Bullshit.

Anyone who can't read the article and realize it is a save-face by the state and union, let alone the Decatur power company because they don't want to piss off the union, is blind.

I totally agree. We get crap loads of ice here down south and we send tons of trucks when other states need them and in turn I see trucks with out of state tags all the time here as well.

Sounds like just another episode of a "Teamster" power play Dont want the local boys to miss out on any OVER, OVER time....HeHe! Meanwhile the local citizens are going without power and other resources.

Re: Italian Jeep?.......that is the way to do it.......

I really doubt that this was a union ploy. Did you realize that FEMA reimburses the payroll of emergency serivices used in disasters. Records of the time worked and who works them has to be kept. If you are not on the time clock workman's comp doesn't pay for any injury. This among other things is why they don't let freelancers into disaster areas, it causes more confusion. You realize how many hundreds of non-union workers are in the area assisting with permission. So a small contingent of workers get sent home and are pouting, so they find someone or something to blame. There's other stories that stated that they were sent to NY, that the services that group could provide was already covered in NJ. People believe what they want. But, unless you've been there and done that how would you know. I have been, more than once. Local workers are more than happy to get assistance so they can go home to take care of their own problems, if they have a home to go to. Recovery is a huge undertaking with a massive amount of resources to coordinate. So someone is going to get their feeling hurt. There is a system and it does work. It just takes time.

But don't believe me, look it up! You might want to check out List of countries by real GDP growth rate (latest year) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia but there are many other good sources. In 2011 the USA had a GDP growth rate of 1.7% . Australia, China and India had 1.8%, 9.5% and 7.8% repetitively. Even Mexico had 3.9%. You need to get up on your toes and look over the fence into the rest of the world, check the figures and make up your own mind as to what is really happening rather than just lapping up the rhetoric you are being fed by your political spin doctors. You will be a much better person for it.

You may have some obvious and valid points there, but we all know how well FEMA works at times...kind of like the Postal system. Lets not even get started on Unions if you dont mind.
