IMO, I think the Vipers shitty sales and buzz in the performance car world is partially driving this. It was meant to be the Halo for SRT, and although many people find the car "cool", outside of the hellbent Viper crowd not many are really buying it and it isn't meetign what was expected of it regardless of what the Chrysler higher ups say. Second, outside that, 4 of the remaining 6 SRT vehicles are going to be Dodge and one of the 2 non-Dodge sells terribly so they can just cut their losses and drop it (300, which IMO is a beautiful car, but no one buys them. I've literally seen more Ferrari's and Lambos on the road in the lifespan of both 300SRT model variants, than 300SRTs them self).

Re: Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT being discontinued?

Jeep is Chrysler's strongest brand, so dropping the SRT Jeep makes no sense. I'm sure any current decision to drop the Jeep SRT will be revisited over the next few years. Or there could be a totally new name for the new high end Grand Cherokee, with a hot SRT type engine.

Re: Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT being discontinued?

I wanna know who at dodge is under Sergios desk to get all this shit. Dodge thus far has made shit cars....IMHO. jeep has kept Chryco and SRT alive the last few years while doidge cars have been losers. But lets turn over our performance division to dodge who has built the avenger, journey and dart the last few years. Not to mention the overweight, fat challenger who is destroyed by cheaper competition. Then...lets keep the Durango...which sales have been up...but then only about 5000 per month...and take capacity from Chryslers cash cow and world beater Grand Cherokee? How much sense does that make? Then they wanna replace the NUMBER ONE selling SRT with a frickin cuv Journey? Give me a break. I hate to say it....but FCW is gonna revisit 2009/10 and they wont have a bailout this time. Sad sad days ahead. Whomever dodge has under Sergios desk must have one helluva suction.....

Re: Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT being discontinued?

Smh....let's hope it's not true. The GC SRT has been somewhat of a halo vehicle to some of us enthusiast's. Although the prices of the GC SRT has gone up between the first gen and current, it's always been a decent buy for what you get in return. They hold their value fairly well and offer a good product with a small cult following. Although the prices for the WK2 were significantly higher than first gen, we did still get a totally new vehicle that actually had decent technology included... If it ain't broke why fix it

Re: Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT being discontinued?

If they must get these ideas, wanting to change, why not have an SRT specific brand. including all of the current models, Grand Cherokee, Challenger, Viper, Charger and 300C. It could be like Mercedes AMG and BMW's M division. Why not just leave things as they are?

Re: Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT being discontinued?

I Tweeted Ralph Gilles and asked him if they were going to make a 2017 SRT. I have not had an answer in 24hrs, I am also not holding my breath he will reply.

I hope that no decision has been made and hope they make the right one.

Re: Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT being discontinued?

Until now, i had not known what a Dodge Journey was, so i Google it.....WTF!. How are they going to make that piece of crap anywhere near the beast the WK2 is, OR even the WK1 for that matter.

Once this plan rolls out and they apply the SRT namesake to crappy dodge models only, it is kind of going to make me feel embarrassed that my JGC carries the SRT name, at that point, might have to completely debadge the beast and disassociate from SRT altogether.

Re: Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT being discontinued?

This is very sad news

Well, I have been looking at used GCSRTs the past few days, so looks like that will be my plan.

Does $45-$46K on a certified 2012 with 26K on the odo seem like a good deal?

EDIT and that is just the asking price, perhaps I could get it down to $44.....

Poor Viper sales are indeed what is driving this...the Viper was infinitely more viable as a Dodge based vehicle. Whoever said SRT is like the AMG of Mercedes or M division of BMW - couldn't be further from the truth. SRT could never carry an entire vehicle lineup - successfully, so they killed it.

The demise of the SRT badge was when they started to dilute it with "SRT Design"

Chrysler, Dodge, SRT killed themselves when they are started slapping $75k-$100k price tags on vehicles under the SRT moniker...a bigger engine, bigger brakes and lots of badges cannot compete in those price ranges with superior marques.

So lets back track and lean on Dodge as the "performance division" of Chrysler...pretty much business as usual, just like rearranging the deck chairs on the titanic.
