just picked up my 2015 GC SRT

Really like the new instrument cluster. The nav unit and the 8 speed tranny are so much better than the 2012 I traded in.I was shocked when I seen that the front rotors had grooves in them, maybe they will last longer?Overall I think the 2015 is the natural progression of a vehicle that gets better over time.I think FCA could delay the makeover the GC as it is a very capable vehicle, for the track or for the mud.

Re: just picked up my 2015 GC SRT

Slotted rotors are designed to help braking by doing a few things:

1) Removing debris from pads. dirt etc...
2) Scrape a slight amount of pad away on each use, helping to prevent the pads from glazing and collecting dirt, helping them apply friction better, which results in better braking.
3) Lower rotor heat and radiate heat away more effectively.

Downside to slotting is faster pad wear...and rotors won't last much longer, but may suffer less from heat and warping.

Too many mods to list for each, so let's just say a lot was done over the years.

I was just surprised that it had slotted rotors.

the slots are staggered from the bottom to the top edge of the rotor

Re: just picked up my 2015 GC SRT

I just had my wheels off to install some lowering springs, so know for sure I don't have slotted rotors, mine was built 2/18/15 too. Wonder why the change...

And they're staggered no less. Are you sure they're grooves and not some sort of metal inlays that may pull heat away from the rotor? Either way, that's a cool upgrade.

Re: just picked up my 2015 GC SRT

That's kind of odd, the slots in those pictures aren't really even on the braking surface. Nor are they uniform angles.

The SRT site doesn't mention slotted rotors on Jeep brakes, but it does on the Challenger.

Slots are mainly to move the heat and hot gasses generated while braking away from the pad surface more efficiently.
