Took my 2015 in several months ago for a warranty issue - tilt adjust working intermittently, and the final remedy was to replace the steering column. Fast forward to the present, and I notice a panel below the steering column has popped open along the top edge. What looks like hot melt glue was used to secure the panel along the top edge and it looks like some molded-in retention tabs are broken off.
My theory is that a tech thought this was just a trim panel and tried to pry it off, not realizing that this is a panel covering the knee air bag, and its not meant to be removed unless the air bag is deployed.
Can anyone confirm if this is or isn't the factory method of securing the panel, or did a bad tech try to cover up his mistake? The dealership has ordered a replacement airbag assembly, so the issue will be fixed
. But if this was a cover-up on the part of the tech, I'm more than a little upset
